Did you know the drum is one of the oldest known instruments in the world? The oldest drum ever found dates back to 5500 BC in China.
It has been used for thousands of years, across every culture, every continent, every ancestry. The drum has always been there.
It has been used for prayer, healing, and ceremony. Not by one people. By all people. No matter where you come from, the drum is in your history somewhere.
The drum is not just an instrument. It is a teacher. A mirror. A heartbeat that helps you come back to yourself.
When I started working with the drum, I did not realize it had so much to teach. But it has taught me so much. Not only has it taught me patience, presence, and how to listen without words, it has taught me to let go of perfection, trust timing, and that your energy matters - plus so much more.
There is a reason the drum is used to open ceremony. It calls us back to the sacred. And I think that is why so many of us feel something stir when we hear one, even if we have never played before. It is not just a sound. It is a remembering.
