Volunteering at Blessing means being part of something bigger: A community built on compassion. A mission that changes lives. And a role that might just change yours.💙

As Mahatma Gandhi said, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” And science backs it up: volunteering can reduce stress, lower blood pressure, boost happiness, improve heart health, and create a meaningful sense of belonging. It strengthens communities — and the people who give their time.

The staff of the Blessing Health Hannibal Cancer Center, and their patients, enjoyed Christmas a bit early, thanks to the generosity of the family and friends of former patient, Christia Provancha.

"We hope that [the donation] will be used in a manner that lifts the spirit of the staff and helps them to look at the bright side of life," said a letter included with the donation.

When service becomes part of your family story, it has the power to change a community.

Sarah Cole, Blessing Health’s Volunteer Services Program Coordinator has always loved volunteering and giving back to her community. Sarah’s family has a long line of volunteers. Being raised with volunteerism in her blood, it’s easy to see how volunteering was instilled early on. Here is a small glimpse of how volunteering has impacted her family.

Sarah’s grandmother, Bernice, was a volunteer at St. Mary’s hospital. She served with the St. Mary’s Volunteer Auxiliary, assisted with and baked for auxiliary’s bazaar, and helped create ER Bears. Sarah’s mother, Sharon, currently volunteers in the Surgery waiting room and Tea Room. Sarah volunteers in the community and for various Blessing Health system events. The legacy lives on through her son, Noah, who volunteers in maintenance through our Youth Corps program.

And we’d love to welcome you into that mission.

Giving birth is intimidating. But doing it 5 weeks early in a new location, well, that's even more scary!

Alexis and Grady Hugunin experienced the full Blessing mission after welcoming their baby boy prematurely, thanks to the addition of some incredible staff and the addition of a nationally board-certified neonatal nurse practitioner.

Let's Change Lives💙

It’s common for people to wish others “good health” during the holiday season. The Blessing Foundation offers you a way to deliver on that wish with the Blessing Health System Honor Card.

The purchaser of an Honor Card donates an amount of their choosing to a Blessing healthcare service of their choosing, in the name of a loved one or friend. The honoree receives a card in the mail telling them of the donation made in their honor, and the donation supports someone in need who is receiving care from the designated service.

The Blessing Foundation manages the Honor Card program. The Foundation raises, manages, and disperses charitable donations on behalf of Blessing healthcare services to assist patients who have medical needs but face financial challenges.

A list of funds to which donations can be made is available by contacting the Blessing Foundation. For more information call 217-223-8400, ext. 4800 or email BlessingFoundation@blessinghealth.org.

Together we can make a difference💙
