This month, we stand with everyone navigating the often invisible weight of depression. 💛

National Depression and Mental Health Screening Month is a time to replace stigma with understanding, and silence with conversation. It’s a reminder that depression is not a choice, a weakness, or something to “just snap out of”—it’s a real and complex condition that deserves compassion, support, and professional care.

If you or someone you love is struggling, you are not alone. Help is available, and hope is real. Let’s continue to educate ourselves, offer gentle support, and remind each other that it’s okay to not be okay.

Larry Lewis

Larry Wayne Lewis, of Hannibal Missouri, passed away at home surrounded by family, after a long-fought battle with cancer on October 21st, 2025, at the age of 55.

Larry was born at Levering Hospital in Hannibal, MO on April, 28th, 1970. His parents are Don and Shirley Grafton. He is preceded in death by his son Spencer, his ex-wife Kimberly Jameson, his granddaughter, Sophia, and both sets of grandparents.

Larry is survived and missed by his daughter Jade Hall (Willie), his parents Donald and Shirley Grafton, his siblings Lori Zuroweste (Kevin) and Amanda Coffin (James) and their families. He is survived by his daughter in law, Megan Harris. Additionally, he is survived by his best friend, his dog Charlie and his special friend of many years, Melissa.

He will forever be cherished and remembered by his grandchildren, Maggie, Willow, Lillie, and Mia. Larry is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He became exceptionally close to his nephew, Jacob, throughout his terminal illness. Larry and Jacob enjoyed remodeling his bus until he got too sick. He had many cousins, but he was extremely close to his cousin Cindy and her husband Alex. They took good care of him, and she spoiled him with her good cooking.

Larry graduated from West Pike High School in 1988 in Kinderhook, Illinois. He participated in many sports, including basketball and baseball. He was an active member of the West Pike March Band which got to travel to Florida and win several awards. He went on to attend Linn Tech State College, where he earned a degree in computer networking and systems design. He then worked many years in this field, including at the Hannibal Courier Post. Later in life, he used his computer skills to work for AT & T, travelling all over the United States to work on their systems.

Anyone that knew Larry, knew how much he loved life. He was such a free spirt and had many hopes and dreams for the future. Those who knew him well, knew how witty he was. He was always looking to joke about something. He greatly loved football and was a lifelong, die-hard Pittsburg Steelers fan. Larry loved all kinds of music, ranging from Ozzie Osbourn to Willie Nelson. He loved camping and fishing. More than anything, he loved spending time with his dog Charlie and his family, especially his daughter and grandchildren. He lived with Jade several months at the end of his life as she cared for him. Larry had a bus that he loved and was remodeling to travel around the United States in. One trip he often talked about taking was to the Grand Canyon to spread his son’s ashes. He was such a fighter. Up until his last day, he was adamant that he was going to beat cancer, and that his number one wish was to be able to accomplish ringing the cancer bell.

There are no words that can express how grateful and blessed we are to his doctors at Ellis Fischell Cancer Center for treating his cancer for years, giving us more time to spend with Larry. Another thanks to St. Croix hospice team for helping Larry pass comfortably and for taking such good care of him. Also, a special thanks to family and friends for support in these last few weeks.

Larry’s funeral services will be held Tuesday October 28, 2025, at 11:00 am at the Grand View Funeral Home. Rev Robert Acton will be officiating. A burial will follow in the grand View Burial Park. A visitation celebrating his life will be Tuesday October 28th, 2025, at 10:00am at the Grandview Funeral Home.

He wished for any donations to go to the Hannibal Humane Society and Loaves and fishes in Hannibal.

Navigating the paperwork after a loss can feel overwhelming, especially when you're grieving. 💙

One term you might encounter is "disposition authorization"—the legal permission needed to carry out your loved one’s final wishes. This isn’t just about paperwork; it’s about honoring a life with love and respect. If you’re supporting someone through this process or planning ahead yourself, we hope this resource brings clarity and comfort.

Together, we can build a kinder, more compassionate world.

Today, we encourage you to share a meal with someone who may be grieving, drop off a comforting dish, or simply reminisce about a food memory that brings you joy. Sometimes, the simplest gestures offer the deepest comfort.
