Herschel Long, age 78, of Hannibal, MO passed away at 12:40 pm Friday, May 22, 2026, at Luther Manor Nursing Home.

Graveside services with full military honors will be held 10:00 am Wednesday, May 27, 2026, in the Grand View Burial Park. Bro. Jeff Anderson and Bro. Ron Haye will officiate.

Visitation celebrating Herschel's life will be held 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.

Herschel was born on July 28, 1947, in Hannibal, MO the son of Perry and Ruth (Shadwell) Long.

He was united in marriage to Ann Cook on July 21, 1972, at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church in Taylor, MO.

Survivors include his wife, Ann of the home; son, John Long and wife Cheryl of Jefferson City, MO; daughter Jennifer Cosby and husband Mark of Springfield, MO; grandchildren, (triplets) Adalyn Long, Benjamin Long and Caleb Long and Tyler Long; brother-in-law, Lee Cook (Raetta) of LaGrange, MO and their children, Jacob Cook and Krystle Cook; sister-in-law, Rea Cook of San Miguel, Mexico and her son, Patrick DeMate.

Herschel was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Long honorably served his country during Vietnam in the United States Navy. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Herschel enlisted in the Army Reserves and continued to serve his country for thirty-two plus years.

Herschel was a longtime educator in the Marion Co R-2 School District, Highland School District and retired from the Hannibal School District as the Psych Examiner/Counselor. Mr. Long also taught Psychology at Hannibal-LaGrange College for a few years along with teaching a class at Westpoint.

Herschel enjoyed the simple things in life. Fly fishing, reading history books and the Bible, building his home and furniture for family and friends, and the morning coffee club were things Herschel enjoyed. His biggest love was traveling with his family and being in their presence. On a few of Herschel's adventures traveling, he rode a mule down the Grand Canyon and whitewater rafted in Costa Rica. In 2023, Herschel was able to go on the Great River Honor Flight.

Herschel was a dedicated member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he served as the chairman of the building committee of the present sanctuary.

Herschel's unwavering dedication to his country, family, education, and church will forever be remembered and cherished by the thousands of lives and hearts he touched throughout the years.

Pallbearers will be John Janes, John Waldshlager, Ben Long, Caleb Long, Tyler Long, Jacob Cook, and Bill Dees.

Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, in care of the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.

Ronald Frances Abright, age 63, of Hannibal, MO passed away at 5:30 pm Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

Cremation arrangements are being handled by the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.

Ronald was born on July 15, 1962, in Hannibal, MO the son of Robert Henry and Vera Dorthel (Smith) Abright, Sr.

Survivors include two brothers, John Abright and Bill Abright; sister, Roberta Elliott and Dora LaFond; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Ronald was preceded in death by his siblings, Wesley Abright, Robert Henry Abright, Jr. and Mary Abright.

Ronald enjoyed the simple life, mowing grass, growing his tomatoes, watching westerns and working around his home.

Jackie "Jack" M. Cooper, age 94, of Palmyra, MO passed away at 7:40 pm Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Palmyra.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 18, 2026, at 11:00 am at Smith Funeral Home & Chapel. Neil Gottman will officiate. Burial with full military honors provided by the Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post #55 will be at Grand View Burial Park.

A visitation celebrating Jack's life will be held on Monday, May 18, 2026, starting at 10:00 am until the time of the service at Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.

Jack M. Cooper was born October 18, 1931, in Hannibal, Mo. the son of Harry Everett Cooper & Freda (Myota) Cooper.

He was united in marriage to Janice Osborne on March 8, 1959, at the First Methodist Church in Hannibal.

After graduating from Hannibal High School in 1949, Jack attended Hannibal LaGrange College, then served in the Air Force four years. He retired from the Norfolk & Southern Railroad after working for 38 years.

Survivors include two daughters, Tamra (Michael) Wolfmeyer of Palmyra & Sandi (Kelly) Campbell of Oran, Mo; four grandchildren, Christopher & Caroline (Carrie) Wolfmeyer of Palmyra, Mo, Kyle (Kallie) Campbell of Nixa, Mo. & Kody (Shelby) Campbell of Olathe, Ks; three great grandchildren, Paxton, Pace, and Ada Kay; one brother & sister-in-law, Brian and Tara Osborne of Hannibal, MO., and several nieces, nephews & cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Janice Cooper on March 9, 2025, and brother, Gene Cooper.

Jack owned & operated the Q-Cushion Billiard Room in Hannibal from 1967 - 1973. He started playing pool in the Crystal Pool Hall on South Main Street in Hannibal when he was very young and he told his mom and dad he was going to the YMCA. At the age of 14 yrs old, he bought his first pool cue & paid for it by paying .50 cents a week.

Jack & Minnesota Fats were good friends and often met in St. Louis to play pool & have dinner. Janice met him when she & Jack went to dinner one evening with some fat pool playing friend of Jacks. Jack has attended & played in many pool tournaments for 60 years & has made many friends all over the country including St. Louis. He played in the Quincy, IL pool league for 4 years & won many tournaments.

Jack also was the owner of the Snoopy 1962 Corvette for 32 years. Weekend drag racing with his brother-in-law driving proved Snoopy could beat most competitors.

Jack was a member of the Elks Club, the American Legion & First United Methodist Church in Hannibal, Mo.

Jeramie Glenn Charlton, 33, of Hannibal, MO passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2026.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on Monday, May 18, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow on Tuesday, May 19, at 11:00 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home & Chapel, located at 2619 St. Mary’s Ave. in Hannibal, MO. Pastor Michael Miller will officiate. Burial will follow in the Grand View Burial Park.

Jeramie was born on February 1, 1993, in Hannibal, MO the son of Michael E. Charlton and Susan R. Gibbons.

Jeramie's legacy lives on through his beloved daughters, Adisynn (Jacan) and Aynslee Dryden and their mother, Emily Dryden all of Hannibal. A grandchild is joyously awaited, bringing new hope and love to the family. His mother, Susan Gibbons of Vandalia; father, Michael Charlton (Kay) of Hannibal; grandmother, Shirley Fountain of Hannibal; and his sisters Jaymee Fogle of Hannibal, Trisch Voepel (Andy) of Palmyra, and Kara Wilson of Vandalia, as well as his stepsister, Crystal Shepherd (John) of Center and stepbrothers Josh and Jason Bates of Hannibal.

Jeramie also leaves behind a large circle of nieces and nephews-including Coady, Jaylee (Parker) and their son Brooks Adam, Sheltyn, Shaelyn, Jaetyn, Treatyn, Kyler (Alyssa), Kohynn, Kaedyn, Karsyn, and Kaisley-along with several aunts, uncles, cousins, and many dear friends who will sorely miss his presence.

Jeramie is reunited in peace with his grandparents, Nonnie and Becka, and his brother in law, Adam Fogle, who preceded him in death.

It is with deep sorrow and profound love that we announce the passing of Jeramie Glenn Charlton. Jeramie was a man whose heart was rooted in family, and whose greatest joy came from the time he spent surrounded by those he loved most. His primary passion in life was his family-especially his precious daughters, as well as his cherished nieces and nephews. Whether sharing laughter, offering guidance, or simply being present, Jeramie’s devotion to his family defined who he was.

Jeramie was a person of creativity and individuality. He embraced diverse and unique hobbies that reflected his vibrant spirit. He had a deep appreciation for art, particularly tattoo-style designs, where he could express himself in bold and meaningful ways. Being outdoors brought him peace, and he found happiness in simple pleasures-spending time in nature, playing with animals and pets, and enjoying the world around him.

Music held a special place in Jeramie’s life. It was more than just something he listened to-it was his outlet, his connection to the world, and a powerful way for him to express his emotions. Through music, Jeramie shared his outlook on life and found comfort in every note and lyric. No matter the genre or style, he embraced it all, appreciating the beauty and expression that each brought into his life.

Jeramie will be remembered for his warm spirit, his creative soul, and the deep love he held for his family. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, and in the moments of joy, music, and togetherness that he cherished so dearly.

He will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.

Pallbearers will be Kyler Niemeyer, Jaetyn Tate, Kohynn Niemeyer, Jordan Stovall, Traetyn Tate, Coady Gilbert, Dylan Tate and Wesley Engle.

Honorary pallbearers will be Adisynn Dryden, Aynslee Dryden, Shaelyn Shepherd, Jaylee Gilbert, Sheltyn Waters, Emily Dryden, Kelsey Zumwalt.

Judith A. Williams, age 71, of West Point, IL passed away at 12:52 pm Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Blessing Hospital.

No services will be held at this time.

Judith was born on November 19, 1954, in Hannibal, MO, the daughter of Harry and Dorothy (Gray) Williams.

Survivors include her sisters, Barbara Murphy of Hannibal, MO and Carol Williams of Columbia, MO; her nephew, Brian Murphy (Sarah); her nieces Sadie Reynolds (Cody), Ashton Kraft, Karli Gibbons, and Paityn Murphy; she is also survived by many great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Judy also had a second loving family in Illinois. They are Jerry "Bub" Smith, his wife Deanna and their children Wyatt, Emmett and Scarlett; William "Bill" Smith and his wife Lexi; Greg Smith and his wife Dacota and their children, Makenna and Maverick; Tiyana Smith and Chris Howard; Teresa and Jerry Smith, and Teresa and Everett Smith.

In addition to her parents Judy was preceded in death by her partner, Bill Perrine; her sister, Mary Ann Williams; her brothers, Warner and Steve Williams; her niece Stephanie Murphy; and her brother in law John Murphy.

Judith graduated from Hannibal High School in 1972.

Professionally Judith worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Judy was a great cake baker and made all of the holiday and birthday cakes. The family will all miss those a lot.

She loved her dogs and cats over the years.

She enjoyed reading mysteries and watching TV. She enjoyed her time with family and friends.
