A lung cancer screenings is a low-dose CT (LDCT) scan that helps catch cancer early - before symptoms start and when treatment is most effective. It’s one of the most powerful tools we have for prevention and early detection.

Throughout the month of November, the Cary Cancer Center is offering lung cancer screenings for a special cash price of $99. A lung cancer screening may be right for you if:
1. You are between the ages of 50 - 77
2. Have at least a 20 pack-year history of smoking (this means 1 pack a day for 20 years, 2 packs a day for 10 years, etc.)
3. And, currently smoke, or have quit within the last 15 years

If you meet the criteria and are at risk for lung cancer, call the Cary Cancer Center at (573) 406-5801 to schedule a lung cancer screening or talk with your primary care provider.

November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month and to help raise awareness Hannibal Regional is offering Lung Cancer Screenings at a special cash price of $99 at the Cary Cancer Center. The only recommended screening for lung cancer is a low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) and the screening is available at the Cary Cancer Center.

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths, accounting for nearly 1 out of 4. While being diagnosed with lung cancer is very serious, some people with early stage cancers can be cured. Over 654,000 people in the United States who have been diagnosed with lung cancer at some point in their lifetime are still alive. “Catching it in the early stages can be difficult because most lung cancers do not present any symptoms until they have spread, which is why it is so important for those who are at risk to get a lung cancer screening,” notes Dr. Minoff, pulmonologist with Hannibal Regional Medical Group.

Many insurance plans now cover lung cancer screenings, including Medicare and Marketplace Insurance Plans.

After a lung cancer diagnosis, your doctor will help you determine next steps for your treatment. Chemotherapy, immunotherapy or radiation is often used to destroy the cancer cells and surgery may also be recommended. “If caught early enough, surgery or radiation alone can be curative for lung cancer. Even if more advanced, there are often still good options, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy or radiation in conjunction with surgery. Immunotherapy is the sniper of cancer treatment- targeting only cancer cells, so it is often effective with few side effects,” shares Dr. Minoff. “The sooner you begin treatment for lung cancer, the better the options and the better the chance of good results.”

If you meet the criteria and are at risk for lung cancer, call the Cary Cancer Center at (573) 406-5801 to schedule a lung cancer screening or talk with your primary care provider.

Life after cancer can be complicated, but it can also be beautiful, meaningful, triumphant, ordinary and extraordinary. Joins us as we and raise awareness of the challenges of cancer survivorship today, National Cancer Survivors Day. According to the National Cancer Institute, an individual is considered a cancer survivor from the time of diagnosis, through the balance of his or her life.

Surviving cancer is something to celebrate, but it’s not the end of the story. Cancer changes your health and your life forever. At Hannibal Regional we are privileged to help so many people throughout their cancer journey - from treatments at the James E. Cary Cancer Center or Hannibal Regional Cancer Institute to caring for them after treatments have ended.

Please join us today as we celebrate and honor cancer survivors across the country.
