HARRISBURG — Attorney General Dave Sunday announced charges against Patrick Vereb regarding the Pittsburgh-based funeral home owner’s theft of more than $650,000 from customers who paid for pet burial and cremation services between 2021 and 2024.

Congratulations to our own Joeylynne Luck and Jill Lazar. Joey and Jill have just graduated from Selected Independent Funeral Home’s Selected Leadership Academy. The Leadership Academy is an intensive journey that has allowed them to join with other funeral directors from around the country that are associated with the “best of the best” funeral homes to develop their leadership skills, self awareness and professional growth. Their hard work culminated this week with their capstone presentations, recognitions and graduation. You have made connections that will be with you throughout your career and beyond. We are so very proud of you, Joey and Jill!!

We wanted to invite those to this service that may want to honor their babies and their journey. This service has been held for the last 13 years, is held for the entire community and is the best kept secret in town. We have a short service of remembrance, and then take the time to place letters to our babies in the grave prior to the burial of the casket that holds the babies that were born still in Hanover Hospital over the last year. There is a marker for each of the previous years, so if your baby falls in line with that year, you are welcome to recognize that grave instead. There are so many more babies that we buried in our hearts, but need a place to go to and all are welcome to come, even if your baby is not physically being buried. Those involved find it so important to those that are quietly navigating this loss that every last bit of this service has been donated...from the grave space to the casket to the flowers to the marker to the minister to the musician. Please join us as we honor anyone who has experienced this type of loss. Everyone is welcome to come to this beautiful service. Perinatal losses are sometimes the unspoken losses and the ones that are carried for a lifetime. Please join us on Saturday, May 3rd, 2025 at 11 am at Mount Olivet Cemetery as we recognize the little ones who were clinically stillborn but to us were born still.

Today we tip our hats, not just in respect but in deep gratitude. The freedoms we enjoy every day come at a price paid by those with courage to step forward and serve. We are the land of the free because of the brave—our heroes who stood tall, fought hard, and carried the spirit of this nation on their shoulders. What started out as a way to clean out the items that were no longer used by 5 families through a yard sale in our parking lot, turned out to be alot more to many more people. It was a reminder to all of us that our actions in both good times and in bad times can have a ripple effect to others. We started out with the promise to give a portion of the proceeds to YWCA's Safe Home initiative, but then we had boxes of women's and children's clothing and housewares that was donated to Thrive Ministries and jewelry and housewares given to But God Ministries in Littlestown, all of whom dedicate their time, energy and finances to helping women leave abusive relationships.

Come see us on Thursday and Friday from 7am-3pm for a Multi Family Yard Sale in our Parking Lot. There will furniture, antiques, bikes, stand up freezer, exercise/sports equipment, crafts, Vera Bradley, kitchenware/appliances, name brand teen clothing, homecoming dresses/blazers, pet supplies, tools, gardening, boys 6-9 clothing, hunting and Christmas items for sale with a portion of the proceeds going to Hanover YWCA Safe Home!
