As we continue Parkinson’s Awareness Month, we’re reminded that Parkinson’s is a journey that looks different for everyone. 🤍
It is often described in five stages using the Hoehn and Yahr scale, helping doctors understand how symptoms may progress over time. While these stages highlight changes in movement, balance, and daily function, no two experiences are ever the same.
Stage 1: Mild symptoms on one side of the body
Stage 2: Symptoms affect both sides, with changes in walking and posture
Stage 3: Balance is affected, increasing the risk of falls
Stage 4: Movement is limited, and daily tasks require assistance
Stage 5: Advanced stage, with full-time care typically needed
This month and beyond, we share this to foster understanding, compassion, and support for those living with Parkinson’s disease and the families who walk alongside them every day. Every step forward, no matter how small, is a reflection of strength and resilience. 🤍
