A guesthouse for hospital patients and their families since 1978.

Maynard House is a home away from home with eight bedrooms, shared bathrooms, full kitchen, living room, and dining area. We are a low cost option for people traveling a distance to medical treatment or to stay close to a hospitalized loved one. Patients of Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital and the VA Medical Center in WRJ, VT are eligible to stay.

🔦Board Member Spotlight: Thomas Hudson, CFA🔦

We’re proud to shine this week’s spotlight on our dedicated Board Treasurer, Thomas Hudson!

Tom brings more than 20 years of experience in the financial services industry to Maynard House. As a Senior Portfolio Manager and Investment Strategist at Ledyard Financial Advisors, he works closely with clients to help them reach their financial goals. At Ledyard, Tom also plays a key role in shaping investment strategy, including asset allocation, manager research, security analysis, and client communications.

Since joining our board, Tom has offered invaluable guidance and financial expertise that helps Maynard House remain strong, sustainable, and mission-driven.

We’re also especially grateful to Tom for rolling up his sleeves and helping out at our recent Breakfast with Michael event — we couldn’t have done it without you!

🥞☕ Another heartwarming Breakfast with Michael is in the books — and what a wonderful morning it was!

We were thrilled to welcome guests to a cozy, welcoming space with hot coffee, warm smiles, and plenty of good food. A special shoutout to our Board Treasurer, Thomas Hudson, for joining in and helping make the morning extra special with his time and care.

We’re especially thankful to Lou’s Bakery for donating a dozen of their legendary cruller donuts — they were a huge hit with our guests!

Events like this remind us how powerful small moments of connection can be — and we’re so grateful to all who make them possible.

🌟 We’re excited to welcome Catherine Harnois to Maynard House! 🌟

Catherine joins us through Dartmouth College’s Center for Social Impact (DCSI) program, which connects students with organizations making a difference in the community.

During her time with us, Catherine will be supporting communications, data analysis, and guest engagement projects—all to help us better serve the families who rely on Maynard House during their medical treatment.

🌟 Board Member Spotlight: Joe Deffner 🌟

Meet Joe Deffner, a dedicated Maynard House Board member and lifelong educator!

Joe has been a pillar of the Thetford Academy community since 1994, serving as an English and social studies teacher and coaching cross-country. Thetford Academy is a unique independent school that also serves as the public school for Thetford, Vermont and nearby towns.

Joe’s passion for education spans the globe—from teaching in inner-city schools and a Massachusetts residential school for students with learning disabilities, to serving as a Peace Corps volunteer in Kenya, and spending a sabbatical year teaching at Fukuoka International School in Japan.

We’re especially grateful to Joe for lending a hand at our recent *Breakfast with Michael*, where he helped create a warm and welcoming space for our guests.

🏡A Legacy of Comfort and Care🏡

Founded on November 27, 1978, Maynard House began as the Upper Valley Hostel a project born from a Dartmouth College seminar and 18 months of planning by a dedicated committee.

As a nonprofit, we offer affordable lodging to adult patients and their families receiving care in the Upper Valley. Just steps from downtown Hanover, NH, Maynard House provides a warm, supportive space where guests can focus on what matters most: healing and recovery.

Over 28,000 guests have called us their home away from home. 💙
