When working with our clients in the school/daycare be sure to work together and play nice in the sandbox. We all want the client’s best interest to be the main focus! Work with the teachers/other providers on ways the client can be successful, we want to create an awesome multidisciplinary team!

Let's get ahead of the chaos, together!

Our PBS Ethics Committee has you covered with tips this month!

Dr. Shane Spiker writes, "Back to school can be a difficult time for many of our learners. Ethical and effective transitions back into school doesn't have to be painful, though. Behavior analysts can plan sessions to include gradual transitions into school routines, which can successfully reduce risks and potential harms related to the change in routines."

The Autism Society of Florida reports that children with autism are 160 times more likely to drown. You can keep your loved one safe by dressing them in swimsuit colors that are neon and vibrant to increase visibility.

These colors include bright, neon colors like orange, yellow, and green to help your loved one stand out in the water.

Avoid blues and dark colors, as they can blend into the water and make it difficult to spot your loved one.

Summer doesn’t wait — and neither should water safety.

It’s officially summer, and there’s no better time to prioritize water safety for your child. Children with autism are often drawn to water but may not recognize its dangers.

Some ways to support water safety include installing pool fences, using door alarms, enrolling in swim lessons, supervising at ALL times, learning CPR, prepping with social stories, and planning ahead for loud noises, visuals, floaties, and transitions during lessons.

With a little preparation, pool days can be both fun and safe — even on the hottest days.

Congratulations to Emily on passing her BCBA exam! She is one of our newest analyst in Louisiana and we are so excited to have her. Emily writes, "I grew up in Crowley, LA but currently live in Lafayette with my husband. I enjoy traveling any chance I get, cooking and entertaining for family and friends, and spoiling our 2 cats and 2 dogs. I’m very excited to continue on my professional journey with PBS by transitioning from my student analyst role into a new role as a BCBA.
