One Health Bighorn

One Health Bighorn Our mission is to improve the well being of everyone by providing accessible, quality health care for the whole community. But we aim for much more than that.

Our integrated care model has been recognized throughout the state and combines medical and behavioral health care under one roof. The concept of the One Health began with a call to provide compassionate primary care to the under-served population of southeastern Montana. Our hope is to catalyze community transformation. We want to create a true culture of health, recognizing that medical care to treat sickness is only a small part of the story. The journey towards “whole health” is much more complex — it includes providing jobs, transforming the physical landscape, and empowering people to take charge of their own health and the health of their community. The mission of One Health is to improve the well-being of everyone by providing accessible, quality healthcare for the whole community. With sites in Hardin, Ashland, Colstrip, Lewistown, Miles City, Chinook, Harlem and on the campus of the St. Labre Indian Catholic School in Ashland, One Health provides patients with access to compassionate and holistic primary health care offering medical, oral and behavioral health/substance abuse services. We refer to our model of integrated healthcare as “Whole Community Care,” acknowledging the need to promote healing at the level of both the individual and the entire community. We recognize the inseparable connections between physical and mental health and have championed an integrated approach to healthcare delivery. Our board of local community members provides locally responsive direction to ensure we remain true to the unique needs and opportunities present in our community. September is here, and it’s National Blood Cancer Awareness Month! Did you know that every 3 minutes, someone in the U.S. receives a diagnosis of blood cancer? That's over 1.3 million people living with or in remission from conditions like leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma. These cancers are the third leading cause of cancer deaths in our country, yet many of us are unaware of their impact. Let’s spread the word and support those affected!

The best way to prevent WNV infection is to prevent getting bitten by mosquitoes. You can take steps to minimize your possibility of encountering WNV (and sometimes mosquitoes!) by remembering the 4Ds of WNV Prevention:
- DRESS: Wear shoes, socks, long pants, and a long-sleeved shirt when outdoors for long periods of time or when mosquitoes are most active. Clothing should be light colored and made of tightly woven materials to keep mosquitoes away from the skin.
- DRAIN: Reduce the amount of standing water in or near your property by draining and/or removing it. Mosquitoes may lay eggs in areas with standing water. Necessary standing water should be changed (e.g. birdbath), moved (e.g. adding a fountain to a pond), or covered (e.g. putting a mesh screen over a water barrel).
- DEET: For additional protection from mosquitoes, use an insect repellent containing DEET (N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide) or picaridin (KBR 3023). Other insect repellents such as oil of lemon eucalyptus and IR3535 are also registered by the EPA but may be less effective than products containing DEET. It is important to follow the product guidelines when using insect repellent.
- DAWN/DUSK: Whenever possible, avoid spending time outside at dawn and dusk. This is when the mosquitoes that spread WNV are most likely to bite. If you keep windows open in your home, make sure that you are using well-fitting screens without holes or tears, to prevent mosquitoes from coming inside.
