Ever wonder why anxiety hits before you can even think it through?

When your brain senses a possible threat, your nervous system activates in milliseconds. Heart rate increases. Breathing shifts. Muscles tense. All before the rational part of your brain has time to say, “Wait… we’re actually okay.”

That’s because the survival part of your brain is designed to protect you, not to be logical. It reacts first and asks questions later.

Understanding this changes everything. Anxiety isn’t weakness. It isn’t lack of faith. It isn’t you “overreacting.” It’s your nervous system doing its job, sometimes just a little TOO well.

The good news? You can learn how to work with your nervous system instead of against it. Regulation skills, awareness, and supportive therapy can help your body feel safer so your mind can catch up.

If anxiety feels like it’s running the show, we’re here to help you understand it, and gently retrain it.

Faith doesn’t promise easy seasons, but it does promise a faithful God in them 💛

Here's some of our favorite Scripture-centered reminders about suffering, grief, and hope.

If you’re walking through a hard season and would like someone to sit with you in it, we’re here. Call or text (270) 819-6036 to connect with our team in Hardin or Mayfield. You don’t have to carry it alone. 🤍

God created you with the capacity to feel deeply.

Joy, grief, fear, hope, anger, love. Scripture is full of people who cried out, questioned, lamented, and wrestled… and they were still faithful.

Feeling anxious doesn’t mean you don’t trust God.
Feeling sad doesn’t mean you lack hope.
Feeling overwhelmed doesn’t mean you’ve failed.

It means you’re human.

In therapy, we don’t try to silence emotions. We gently make space for them, understand them, and learn how to respond with wisdom and steadiness.

If you’ve been trying to pray your feelings away, maybe this is your reminder: it’s okay to feel them.

If you’d like support learning how to hold both your faith and your emotions with care, we’re here.

Call or text (270) 819-6036 or visit newpathwaysky.com to get started. 🤍

Your nervous system is not the enemy. 🤍

When your heart races, your thoughts spiral, or your body feels tense, it’s not because you’re dramatic or doing something wrong. It’s because your nervous system is trying to protect you.

The problem isn’t that your body responds to stress. The problem is when it gets stuck there.

Learning how your nervous system works can completely change the way you relate to anxiety and overwhelm. Instead of fighting your reactions, you can begin to understand them, and gently guide your body back to steadiness using practical tools like breath work, grounding, and intentional movement.

These skills help you build awareness and learn how to respond with confidence instead of fear. Regulation is a skill, and skills are easier to build with support.

If stress or anxiety has been weighing on you, we’d love to walk alongside you.

Call or text (270) 819-6036 to schedule in Hardin or Mayfield. You don’t have to figure it out alone. 🤍

Anxiety isn’t a character flaw or a lack of faith. It’s your brain and body trying to keep you safe.

When worry feels overwhelming or shows up physically, there’s often a real, biological reason behind it. Understanding what’s happening beneath the surface can ease self-criticism and open the door to greater compassion and clarity.

With the right support, you can learn how your nervous system works, why it responds the way it does, and how to use practical tools to bring more steadiness, regulation, and peace into your day-to-day life.

You’re not broken. Your body is communicating, and you don’t have to navigate that alone.

If anxiety has been weighing on you, we’re here to help. Call or text (270) 819-6036 to schedule a session when you’re ready. 🤍

Starting therapy can feel like a big step, especially if you’re not sure what to expect. We want your first session to feel less intimidating and more like a gentle beginning. 🤍

From the moment you walk through our doors, you’ll be welcomed into a space designed to feel calm, comfortable, and safe. There’s no pressure to perform, explain everything perfectly, or have the “right” words. Your first session is simply a conversation, a chance to share what brought you in, ask questions, and start building trust at your own pace.

There’s no judgment here, only understanding. We meet you exactly where you are and take time to learn what support could look like for you, based on your needs, goals, and season of life. Therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all, and your care shouldn’t be either.

If you’ve been wondering what that first step feels like, this is it. Steady, supportive, and centered on you.

When you’re ready, we’re here.
Call or text us at (270) 819-6036 to schedule your first session.

Distance in relationships rarely happens all at once.

More often, it grows in quiet moments, when needs go unspoken, requests feel small, or attention drifts elsewhere.

Over time, those moments can add up, leaving both people feeling unseen or disconnected.

The good news? Awareness changes everything. Learning to notice patterns and respond differently can begin rebuilding connection in ways that feel meaningful and sustainable.

If you’re noticing distance and aren’t sure how to talk through it together, having a supportive space to slow down and sort things out can make a difference.

We’re here to help hold those conversations with care, when you’re ready. 🤍

There often comes a moment when holding everything together quietly just doesn’t work anymore.

For many people, real change begins when someone is invited into the parts that have been carried alone for a long time.

Opening up isn’t easy, but connection has a way of softening what feels heavy and reminding us we were never meant to do life on our own.

If you’re in a season where sharing feels hard, you don’t have to take that step alone. We’re here when you’re ready. 🤍

Growth rarely follows a straight line.

Some seasons feel lighter. Others feel heavier. And both can exist within the same healing journey.

Progress looks different for every person, shaped by their experiences, pace, and capacity in each season.

Care works best when there’s room for that humanity.

If you’re navigating a season that feels heavy or simply need support along the way, we’re here to walk with you.

When questions start to surface, it’s okay to pause and seek clarity.

Noticing differences in your child’s development doesn’t mean something is “wrong”. It shows you’re paying attention with care and intention. Many families reach out simply wanting to better understand how their child experiences the world.

Autism evaluations can help provide insight, guidance, and next steps by offering a clearer picture of your child’s strengths, needs, and support options. Having the right information often brings peace of mind and helps families move forward with confidence.

You don’t have to have everything figured out before reaching out. Our trained clinicians are here to to walk alongside you and help you explore what support could look like for your family. 🤍

What began as a calling to serve our community grew into New Pathways Counseling.

A practice rooted in faith, guided by clinical excellence, and built with deep intention. 🤍

Founded by Addison Futrell, LPCC-S, NCC, New Pathways was created to meet a real need in our region: access to high-quality, research-informed mental health care that honors both clinical standards and compassionate support. Addison’s journey through education, advanced training, and continued certification reflects her commitment to doing this work well, and doing it with heart.

When she’s not in the counseling room, you’ll likely find Addison outside, spending time with her family, or dreaming up new ways to better support the people and families we serve.

We’re grateful for her vision, leadership, and the care she brings to every corner of New Pathways.
