Roots for Resilience class participants with their reverently and patiently dug Ashwagandha roots. It was a joy to spend time in the garden with these folks! We tasted numerous root preps, felt their plant energetics in our bodies, discussed medicinal properties, cultivation and more. Connecting people with plant allies is a big passion of mine and the outdoor classroom my favorite place to be. Big thank you to all who came!

An awesome walk with biologist Matt Peters exploring several different natural communities along the Lamoille River flood plain yesterday. In this photo you can see the core sample he took from a not too huge Eastern White Cedar (pictured in 2nd photo) from which you can count the rings. This one was at least 118 yrs old, old enough to have withstood the flood of ‘27 as well as this summer’s deluge. Thanks Matt for giving us the human-ego-shrinking perspective of 12,000 years of geologic time (standing on the shores of a glacial lake!). And for the reminder that the rivers have the urge to migrate too, just like animals. In the last photo Matt used a soil auger to discuss the composition differences between the various natural communities we visited.
