Stroke recovery can feel isolating, which is why support networks matter. While family and friends provide important help and encouragement, stroke support groups offer something unique: connection with others who truly understand the experience. Research shows that strong support networks are linked with better mental well-being and improved recovery after stroke.

Support groups can reduce stress, improve coping skills, and create a sense of belonging. Many survivors find that sharing with peers who have “been there” helps them feel less alone and more understood.

Fear of falling after a stroke is common. It’s your brain’s way of trying to protect you. But sometimes that fear creates a cycle. Fear of falling can lead to avoiding movement, which causes weaker muscles and worse balance, ultimately increasing the risk of falling and reinforcing even more fear.

Signs you may be in this cycle include feeling unsteady, difficulty rising from a chair, fatigue, avoiding activities, worrying about falling during safe tasks, and losing confidence.

The good news is this cycle can be broken. Start by working with your healthcare team to find safe ways to stay active. Balance-focused exercises, physical and occupational therapies, fall prevention strategies, and simple home safety changes can help you rebuild strength, improve stability, and regain confidence, one step at a time.

New 2026 guidelines from the American Stroke Association highlight important advances in treating ischemic stroke, which occurs when a blood clot blocks blood flow to the brain.

Recommended treatments now include expanded access to clot-removal procedures, greater use of the clot-busting medication tenecteplase, and mobile stroke units that bring care directly to patients.

These updates are helping more patients receive faster treatment, which can improve recovery and reduce long-term disability.

With nearly 800,000 strokes each year in the U.S., rapid recognition and treatment remain critical. Remember F.A.S.T. to recognize a stroke: Face drooping, Arm weakness, Speech difficulty, Time to call 911.

Rehabilitation can make a significant difference for people living with Parkinson’s disease. Physical, occupational, and speech therapies can help manage both movement and non-movement symptoms, keeping daily life easier and more independent.

Starting rehabilitation early and continuing it regularly can improve walking, balance, strength, communication, and overall quality of life. It also reduces stress for caregivers and helps people stay active and engaged in the activities they love.

If you or a loved one has Parkinson’s disease, talk with your healthcare team about the rehabilitation options available to support living well.

Losing mobility can be challenging, but today’s prosthetic technology is opening new doors. Modern prosthetics are lighter, more comfortable, and smarter than ever, using sensors, AI, and advanced materials to enable more natural, responsive movement. 3D printing allows precise, custom fits, while osseointegration—a surgical procedure where a titanium implant is anchored directly into the bone and fuses over several months—provides a stable, functional connection, making the prosthetic feel like a true extension of the body.

Medical rehabilitation helps individuals with prosthetics build strength, balance, and coordination to use their new limb safely and confidently in daily life. Through personalized therapy and support, rehabilitation enhances function, comfort, and long-term adaptation.

Progress in Parkinson’s disease research is happening thanks to artificial intelligence (AI). According to recent studies, AI is helping scientists find hidden patterns in complex data, identify new treatment targets, and better understand how Parkinson’s disease progresses.

Using large studies like the Parkinson’s Progression Markers Initiative (PPMI), which include brain scans, genetics, clinical tests, and wearable device data, AI can spot early warning signs, reveal different “subtypes” of the disease, and help researchers design more precise, personalized treatments.

These breakthroughs are helping scientists understand why Parkinson’s disease affects each person differently and move closer to treatments that are tailored to individual needs.
