Local business owners, friends and family please take time to sign the petition and reach out to local lawmakers.
Texas veterans are now facing significant risks due to recent cuts to VA-funded in-home care. The reductions in authorized weekly hours and the drastic decrease in reimbursement rates are already limiting access to essential personal care and homemaker services statewide.
ComForCare RGV currently serves over 50 veterans weekly, providing critical support such as ADL assistance, medication reminders, safety supervision, transportation, and socialization. These services reduce hospitalizations, prevent institutionalization, and support independent living.
However, with the new cuts:
Veterans will lose essential support hours
Agencies will be unable to sustain overtime care
Caregiver retention will drastically decline
Emergency room visits and hospital readmissions will increase
Many veterans will be forced into long-term care facilities.
Our caregivers frequently go beyond authorized hours to prevent harm, including a recent case where a caregiver stayed with a veteran in severe pain until he was admitted to a hospital, despite no remaining hours.
Stories like this happen every day. Our caregivers don’t ask for extra pay, but ComForCare ensures they are compensated. With these drastic cuts, this will no longer be possible. Our veterans will suffer the consequences.
This level of support is not financially sustainable under the current reimbursement model. Without intervention, Texas will see a sharp decline in care quality and availability for its veteran population.
This is love. This is service. This is what true care looks like.
But these reimbursement cuts make it impossible to continue at this level. Our veterans—the men and women who once protected us—are now being left unprotected.
We cannot let this happen.
Texas veterans deserve better. They deserve stability, dignity, and the ability to remain in their homes with adequate support. We urge you to reconsider these cuts, restore sustainable reimbursement, and protect the wellbeing of those who have sacrificed for our country.
Our veterans served us without hesitation. Please do not abandon them now.
Sincerely,
Micah Gibbs-Gonzalez
