Amethyst has always been associated with February, the month the Romans dedicated to Neptune, their water god. It is the stone of St. Valentine and faithful love and signifies ecclesiastical dignity as the Bishop’s Stone. It carries the energy of fire and passion, creativity and spirituality; yet bears the logic of temperance and sobriety.
Amethyst comes from the Ancient Greek word améthystos (αμέθυστος), meaning “not drunk” It was believed to prevent intoxication and comes from an ancient legend.
While the word "amethyst" makes most people think of a dark purple gem, amethyst actually occurs in many purple colors. The purple color can be so light that it is barely perceptible or so dark that it is nearly opaque. It can be reddish purple, purple, or violetish purple.
Promoting love of the divine, Amethyst encourages selflessness and spiritual wisdom. Amethyst is a natural tranquiliser, it relieves stress and strain, soothes irritability, balances mood swings, dispels anger, rage, fear and anxiety.
