Cameron County officials are reminding all residents of the importance of registering for CodeRED, the County’s official emergency notification system. CodeRED enables local authorities to quickly deliver urgent alerts regarding critical situations that require immediate attention and action.

What is CodeRED?
CodeRED is a high-speed notification service used to disseminate important emergency information to the public. The system delivers alerts via phone calls, text messages, and emails, ensuring that residents stay informed no matter where they are or what device they are using.

How CodeRED Works:

Emergency Alerting: When emergencies arise—such as hurricanes, missing persons, or hazardous material incidents—officials activate CodeRED to notify registered residents.

Targeted Notifications: Messages are geo-targeted, so only individuals in the affected area will receive alerts relevant to their location.

Multiple Communication Channels: Residents can receive alerts via phone calls, SMS text messages, or emails, depending on their preferences.

Actionable Information: Notifications include essential details and instructions on what actions residents should take, such as evacuations or shelter-in-place advisories.

Registration is Critical
To receive CodeRED alerts, residents must register with the system. Those who do not register will not receive these potentially life-saving messages.

As there is inclement weather forecasted for next week, please see the following update regarding the City’s preparations:

The City of Brownsville is being proactive and has designated 4 locations to open as warming centers. These following locations will be opened on an as-needed basis in the following order, and ALL these locations will be open 24 hours if they get activated:

-Good Neighbor Settlement House, 1254 E. Tyler St, Brownsville, TX 78520 (1st to be activated)

-Brownsville Sports Park, 1000 Sports Park Blvd, Brownsville, TX 78520 (2nd to be activated)
