🌿 National Nutrition Month 🌿
There is a common misconception that hospice “doesn’t feed” patients. In truth, hospice care honors the natural changes that occur as the body begins to slow down.
In the final stages of life, the body often no longer requires, processes, or benefits from the same amount of food and fluids. Forcing nutrition at that time can sometimes cause discomfort or pain.
Our focus is always comfort, dignity, and quality of life — not prolonging suffering.
At Lindenwood Hospice & Palliative Care, nutrition is individualized for every patient. We assess changing needs, educate families about what is normal, recommend texture or portion adjustments for safety, and most importantly — honor personal wishes.
Sometimes that means small bites of a favorite food.
Sometimes it means sips for comfort.
Sometimes it means simply keeping the mouth moist and the patient comfortable.
Hospice does not withhold care.
Hospice provides compassionate, individualized care — including thoughtful support around nutrition.
If you have questions about hospice, we are always here to talk.
