Had the opportunity to present for a Specialty Workgroup with Morrison Healthcare on one of my favorite topics: nutrition and wound healing 🩹🍗🥑🥦🥛

I spoke about the importance of early malnutrition identification and intervention, the increased nutrition demands that come with wound healing, and the critical role RDs play on the interdisciplinary be wound care team. Nutrition truly is foundational to healing.

Honored to be recognized for my time as President of the California Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. This year has been equal parts challenging, inspiring, and incredibly meaningful.

Leadership isn’t always easy, but it’s always worth it when it’s rooted in purpose.

Beyond patient care: Clinical RDs make a bigger difference. I spent this week in Harlingen, TX, teaching chefs, dietitians, and speech language pathologists about IDDSI and safe food preparation for dysphasia patients… all while rocking my carrot earrings 🥕

🚨 ACTION ALERT for RDNs, students, and future dietitians

Proposed federal regulations may exclude nutrition and dietetics programs from the list of “professional degree programs,” which could significantly limit access to federal student loans.

Entry into our profession now requires a graduate degree. Restricting loan access will shrink the pipeline of future dietitians at a time when healthcare systems are already struggling to recruit and retain qualified RDNs. This impacts hospitals, long-term care, rural communities, public health programs, and most importantly, patients.

If you are:
• A registered dietitian
• A student or intern
• A preceptor or educator
• Or someone who benefited from federal loans

Please take a few minutes to submit a public comment.

Deadline: March 2nd

I’ve submitted my comment. I hope you will too. Our profession and our patients depend on it.

ACTION ALERT: Nutrition and Dietetics Programs are not included in the list of the U.S. Department of Education's "professional degree programs," which impacts student loan funding.

Without appropriate loan access, many qualified students will not be able to enter the profession. All practitioners are encouraged to advocate on this issue.

Protect access to graduate education.

Some exciting professional news to share.

I am honored to have been elected to serve as the CDR Advanced Practitioner in Clinical Nutrition (RD-AP) Representative, with my term beginning June 1, 2026.

The Commission on Dietetic Registration plays an essential role in advancing credentialing and professional standards within our field. I am proud to represent advanced practice dietitians across the country and contribute to the continued growth of our profession at the national level.

I remain fully committed to my leadership role with the California Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and look forward to continuing to serve both at the state and national levels.

Thank you to everyone who supported and encouraged me throughout this process. I am grateful for the trust and ready to get to work.

🩹 ASPEN 2027 — Let’s build something meaningful.

As ASPEN26 wraps up, I’m already looking ahead to Chicago, February 13–16, 2027.

I’m developing a session proposal focused on bridging the physiology of wound healing with real-world nutrition practice — and I’m still looking for a wound care physician or surgeon to co-present.

The vision:
🧠 The science behind inflammation, perfusion, catabolism vs anabolism, and key nutrients
🥼 The practical side — identifying malnutrition, implementing interventions, and building workflows that actually work
🤝 Together — strengthening interdisciplinary collaboration and reinforcing why dietitians belong on wound care teams

📅 Proposal deadline: April 1
There’s time to build something strong and evidence-based.

If you’re passionate about improving outcomes through collaboration, let’s connect.
DM me or email CrystalScottRD@gmail.com

And if you know a physician who would be a great fit, I’d truly appreciate an introduction.
