Today I tried contrast therapy at Casa Vibra in McAllen, which is the act of alternating between an infrared sauna and a cold plunge, and I want to share my experience.

As a therapist, I believe in personally experiencing many of the wellness practices I recommend to my clients. If I’m suggesting tools that support healing, I want to understand how they feel in the body and mind. This was my first time trying contrast therapy, and it was such a powerful experience that I know I’ll continue incorporating it into my own self-care routine.

Contrast therapy works by exposing the body to cycles of heat and cold. The infrared sauna gently warms the body, helping muscles relax and encouraging deep breathing. Then the cold plunge activates the nervous system in a completely different way; bringing a sharp sense of alertness and clarity.

Many people are surprised to learn that this simple cycle can have meaningful mental health benefits, such as:
• helping regulate the nervous system
• reducing stress and tension in the body
• improving mood and mental clarity
• supporting emotional resilience
• creating a mindful reset from daily stress

The experience felt grounding, energizing, and incredibly calming at the same time, which is something that can be especially helpful when we’re carrying emotional or mental stress.

Have you tried Ear Seeding yet?

Better yet... what is it?

Ear seeding, or "Auriculotherapy" is a gentle wellness practice from Traditional Chinese Medicine where tiny seeds are placed on pressure points on the ear.

Stimulating these points may help regulate the nervous system.

For mental health, ear seeding can support stress reduction, relaxation, better sleep, and emotional balance.

Many people find it helpful as a simple, body-based tool to complement therapy and promote a sense of calm.

Today, I had the pleasure to sit with .wellness as she consuducted a mini consult to better understand which symptoms I'd like to target through auriculotherapy.

A veces las heridas del pasado siguen viviendo en silencio dentro de nosotras.
Experiencias que dolieron, palabras que marcaron, o momentos que nunca tuvimos la oportunidad de procesar. Aunque seguimos adelante, esas heridas pueden aparecer en nuestras relaciones, en nuestra autoestima o en la forma en que nos hablamos a nosotras mismas.

Sometimes we stay where we are because it feels safer than changing. Even when life feels heavy, familiar patterns can feel more predictable than the unknown. We might tell ourselves that things will eventually get better on their own, or that the life we long for is meant for someone else. Over time, though, that quiet longing can turn into resentment toward ourselves, toward others, or toward the life we feel we should have had by now.

But growth often begins the moment we realize that staying the same is costing us more than trying something new. Healing, setting boundaries, asking for help, choosing a different path... these things can feel risky. Yet they are also the very things that allow us to open, expand, and step into a life that feels more aligned with who we are becoming.

Like flowers, we are not meant to stay closed forever. There comes a time when the most courageous thing we can do is allow ourselves to bloom...slowly, imperfectly, and in our own time.

Today, I invite you to consider taking that first step. I am here for you.

🧠 Gaslighting 101
When Someone Tries to Make You Doubt Yourself

Ever had someone say…
👉 “You’re too sensitive.”
👉 “That never happened.”
👉 “You’re just being dramatic.”

If it leaves you feeling confused, second-guessing yourself, or like everything is your fault…
⚠️ That may be gaslighting.

Gaslighting is when someone manipulates you into doubting your own feelings, memories, or reality.

💬 Real-life examples teens may recognize:
🚩 They hurt your feelings, then say you’re overreacting
🚩 They deny things they clearly said or did
🚩 They twist the story to make you feel guilty
🚩 They make you feel like you’re “going crazy”
🚩 They blame you for their bad behavior

🧡 Here’s the truth:
Your feelings are valid.
Your memories matter.
Your voice deserves to be heard.

✨ How to respond safely:
✅ Trust your gut
✅ Keep notes or screenshots if something feels off
✅ Talk to a trusted adult or school counselor
✅ Reach out for support — you don’t have to handle it alone

Gaslighting is not love.
Healthy relationships make you feel safe, respected, and clear — not confused and small.
