Public Health Press Release
On Wednesday, July 11, 2018, the Fredericksburg Police Department and Animal Control was notified by the Texas Department of State Health Services, Public Health Region 8, that Gillespie County had a confirmed case of rabies.
The owner of the deceased rabid dog was contacted by Fredericksburg Animal Control and the following information was relayed to the Fredericksburg Police Department.
The rabid dog was described as a 13 month old black crossbreed puppy wearing a pink collar on a purple leash. Please see the attached picture of the puppy.
The owner and the puppy were in the 300 block of West Main Street watching the parade on July 4, 2018. After the parade the owner and the puppy ate lunch at Hondo’s in the outdoor seating area. The owner and the dog then left Hondo’s. The owner reported that they did not walk anywhere else on Main Street during or after the parade.
The puppy started showing signs and symptoms on Saturday, July 7, 2018 where it was taken to a vet. The puppy was later sent off for testing and Fredericksburg Animal Control was notified of the incident on the afternoon of July 11th. If you believe you came into contact with this puppy, please contact your Doctor without delay.

Dartez Southdowns raised the Champion and Reserve Champion Southdowns at the Gillespie Co Livestock show. Congratulations to the Grobe family and to Brylie. The reserve lamb was sold at the Best of the Best Lamb Sale.
