My Why
A question I have been asked often over the last few years that I am all to eager to answer: Why did I want to be a chiropractor? Its a long story but a really simple answer. I wasn’t introduced to chiropractic until I was 25 years old. I had just graduated college and was working as a personal trainer at Results Fitness and Nutrition Center. At the time I was really into weight lifting and was really pushing myself in the gym. I had also been doing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at a local academy and fell in love with the sport. One morning, I was lifting weights in the gym and started feeling this weird sensation in the back of my head that slowly went away throughout the day. The next night I went to a BJJ class and everything was normal. On the way home from class I started to feel that same odd sensation in the back of my head. By the next morning this weird sensation had turned into a full blown headache with throbbing pain starting on the base of my skull going to the top of my head. I was now dealing with a life altering pain that severely decreased my quality of life. This went on for over 2 months with countless doctor visits, prescriptions, and no answers. At this point, I had lost over 30 pounds due to not being able to lift weights. I was taking anti inflammatory’s like they were candy just to be able to work, which caused me to have terrible stomach pain and indigestion. It was all bad. One day at the gym, a chiropractor overheard me discussing what was going on with my health. He walked up to me and said “Why don't you come see me at my office”, to which I replied, “My back feels fine, why would I go to a chiropractor for a headache”. Well at this point I would try anything to feel better, so I scheduled an appointment and went. The first visit in the office I had to fill out paperwork and I got a set of full spine X rays. He then educated me on what he was looking for on the X ray as a chiropractor. I really wasn’t that interested in what he had to say, I just wanted to feel better. I came back the next day and he showed me what was going on. I had severe misalignment's throughout my spine that he believed was causing my symptoms and decreasing my overall health. He told me these misalignments most likely started at an early age and just got worse over time. He then adjusted me for the first time and told me I had to come back again the next day. That first night I felt pretty much the same and thought I was wasting my time honestly but I went back the next day anyway cause I literally had nothing to lose at this point. He adjusted me for a 2nd time. That night I actually noticed a little difference and slept much better than I had been (did I mention I wasn’t sleeping good either). The following Monday I had to go back for another adjustment which I was actually excited about cause I felt a little improvement. He adjusted me a 3rd time. I came back the next day for my 4th adjustment and thats when the overwhelming feeling happened. As soon as I was adjusted the 4th time, I felt an immediate since of relief and pressure dissipate from my head. This was the first time I had felt normal in almost 3 months!!! I could not wait to get adjusted again. After that 4th adjustment I never had that feeling in my head again but I continued to get adjusted to really fix the misalignment in my spine so I WOULD NEVER FEEL THAT PAIN AGAIN!!!! I also hadn’t gone through a single sinus infection since getting under care, when I usually had 2-3 a year. This is when I made the decision to become a chiropractor which was the best decision of my life! This brings me to my why!! I want to be the chiropractor that I didn’t have as a child. I don’t blame my parents for never taking me to see a chiropractor. They didn’t know anything about it. I want to be the chiropractor in my community who tells everyone about what I do and most importantly why I do it. I was introduced to chiropractic through an injury but it did not need to be that way. The misalignment's that I had in my spine started as a child but there wasn’t a chiropractor in my community who was telling my parents that I needed to see him in order to correct this. I developed a passion for health and teaching others about health in college. Chiropractic is now my platform to spread health and healing through a natural means. My why is to share the power of chiropractic with the world and to make family's healthier from the inside out! My goal is for every parent in my community to know what chiropractic is! True health comes from within and we are all capable of achieving it if given the proper environment.
