Protect Your Vision. Take Action.

Glaucoma-related vision loss is often preventable when caught early.

We encourage everyone to schedule regular eye exams, even if no vision problems are noticeable. A simple appointment can make a lifelong difference.

Please consider sharing this information with family members, friends, and loved ones—especially those who may be at higher risk.

Together, through awareness and early detection, we can help safeguard vision and independence in our community.

But Who Is at Risk?

Anyone can develop glaucoma, but certain individuals may be at a higher risk. Common risk factors include:

• Being over the age of 60
• Having a family history of glaucoma
• Living with diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart disease
• Experiencing previous eye injuries
• Being nearsighted or farsighted

Knowing your risk does not mean vision loss is inevitable. With routine eye exams and early care, glaucoma can often be managed successfully.

Taking proactive steps today can help protect your vision for the future.

What is Glaucoma?

January is National Glaucoma Awareness Month

Glaucoma is often called the “silent thief of sight” because it can damage vision slowly and without noticeable symptoms—especially in the early stages.

This group of eye conditions affects the optic nerve and, if left untreated, can lead to permanent vision loss. Many people do not realize they have glaucoma until significant vision changes occur.

That is why regular, comprehensive eye exams are so important. Early detection allows treatment to begin before vision is lost, helping people maintain independence and quality of life.

Awareness is the first step in protecting sight.

As we begin a new year, we reflect on the heart of our mission at Vision Resources of Central Pennsylvania—empowering independence and enriching quality of life for individuals who are blind or visually impaired.

Last year, together with our community, we

⭐️ served 523 individuals
⭐️provided 680 hours of transportation
⭐️ completed 2,669 vision screenings for preschool children
⭐️ provided 293.75 hours of access technology training for 28 clients
⭐️ served 137 clients in our eye clinic
⭐️offered 35 weekly programs with our audio streaming services
⭐️ and created an incredible 30,807 pages of Braille transcription.

Each number represents a person, a family, and a step toward greater confidence and independence.

As we look ahead, we remain committed to expanding access, breaking down barriers, and supporting individuals at every stage of life. We’re grateful for the support that makes this work possible and excited for what this new year will bring.

Follow along with us as we continue building a more accessible and inclusive future - one vision at a time.

🎄 Just before Christmas, our leadership team took a moment to slow down, connect, and celebrate the season together. We enjoyed a holiday lunch followed by some festive gingerbread house building, a fun reminder that strong teamwork and shared moments help us better serve our community all year long.

Grateful for this team and looking ahead with excitement to the year to come.✨
