Our team came together for our bi‑annual in‑person meeting, a chance to step out of the day‑to‑day, reconnect, and focus on strategy and how we can best support our clients serving rural communities.

We spent time aligning priorities, strengthening collaboration, and identifying ways to better support the hospitals and partners doing this work on the ground.

Grateful for the thoughtful conversations, shared ideas, and commitment across the team.

Parkland Health Center in Bonne Terre, MO recently celebrated the opening of its newly updated therapy facility, a major investment in expanding rehabilitation services for patients across St. Francois County and the surrounding region.

This investment removes the burden of long-distance travel for specialized rehab, ensuring that life-changing therapy happens right in the community where patients have their strongest support systems.

Regional liaison, Ken, continues to speak with President Annette Schnabel (pictured) to discuss how these expanded capabilities fit into their broader vision for the future of community care.

We value the opportunity to provide assistant to Parkland Health Center as they expand their reach, ensuring specialized care is always available for this community.

Congratulations to everyone who completed Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training in Punxsutawney! We were honored to co-facilitate this training with Punxsutawney Hospital Staff and spend time with such an engaged group.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) teaches people how to recognize the signs of a mental health challenge or substance use challenge, offer initial support, and connect someone to appropriate care. It’s practical, hands on training that helps build more informed, compassionate, and resilient communities.

Thank you to all who showed up, participated, and invested in these important skills.

Penobscot Valley Hospital (PVH) is advancing best practice in safety with the launch of Barcode Medication Administration (BCMA) technology in its Emergency Department.

This implementation is a critical safety net for the community. The impact of BCMA extends far beyond simple scanning, it reduces the risk of human error, provides clinicians with real time decision support, and brings gold standard safety protocols to their rural community.

Elisa, CFO at Penobscot, shared, "The cordless medication barcode scanners work fabulously - it makes it easy to reach the patient. This is a big improvement - they are durable and hold up to daily use."

Their experience reflects exactly why this technology matters, it makes safe care easier, faster, and more reliable. PVH is ensuring that local residents receive the most secure and dependable care possible. T.J. Health Columbia is redefining healthcare access for rural residents through a series of meaningful, community driven improvements. After identifying long wait times and long travel distances for pulmonary and cardiac rehab, the team moved quickly to bring rehab services directly into the hospital. Patients are experiencing greater convenience, better continuity of care, and improved outcomes, all of which are driving increased local utilization.

Their commitment to expanding access doesn’t stop there. T.J. Health Columbia recently earned recognition as a Level IV Trauma Center, strengthening regional safety and reducing the time between injury and expert care, a lifesaving difference for rural residents.

These clinical advancements are complemented by a refreshed interior and exterior, giving the hospital a renewed sense of pride and presence that reflects the quality of care happening inside.

TriStar Health Alliance, converted to a Rural Emergency Hospital, a major milestone and the first of its kind in their state. Their leadership and commitment to expanding access to care serve as an important example for rural communities across the region.

For more than 75 years, AHN Westfield Memorial Hospital has been a trusted source of care for the people of western New York. The hospital plays an essential role in protecting health care access for communities across Chautauqua County, ensuring that 24/7 emergency care remains close to home for the region’s rural residents.

Today, they are removing the barriers that often stand between rural residents and essential care.

They recently expanded access to advanced imaging by adding state-of-the-art MRI services, including a mobile unit, reducing the need for long, costly trips for care. Now, high-quality diagnostics are available right where they belong, closer to home. This shift means faster answers, earlier detections, and a much smoother path to recovery for every patient they serve.

The Pennsylvania Rural Health Model (PARHM) served as a robust learning laboratory for rural health transformation efforts as evidenced by the recent Health Affairs article.

The article identifies some important lessons learned, and improvement opportunities as rural health transformation efforts evolve. While PARHM successfully provided a critical financial lifeline through financial incentives, lessons learned identify that this alone will not fully sustain rural hospitals and truly transition to value -based care.

This highlights what PARHM stakeholders have identified as they continue to work together to build a successor program for the state of Pennsylvania on operational support.

True transformation requires reshaping how rural care is delivered so communities can thrive.

This “Next Generation” approach recognizes that real stability comes when payment models are paired with robust transformation strategies that address the need for operational infrastructure, and strong quality programs within alternative payment. on operational support.
