We Know Your Cat is Sweet… But Something Might Be Off 🐾

Just like people, cats can develop diabetes — a condition that affects how their body turns sugar into energy.

Our hospital is currently enrolling cats for a voluntary study evaluating different doses of an investigational treatment designed to help manage feline diabetes.

Keep an eye out for these signs:

- Increased Urination (More Frequent or Larger Amounts).
- Drinking More Water Than Usual.
- Increased Appetite.
- Unexplained Weight Loss.
- A Dull or Dry Coat.

If you’ve noticed any of these changes, it may be worth a closer look. Call us at (717) 652-1270 ext. 4501 to speak with our study coordinator, Kris, and learn more.

Thank you for considering participation and helping advance care for cats everywhere! 💛

Did you know dogs can suffer from a condition called Dry Eye (KCS)? This condition can cause discomfort, redness, and irritation.

Because dogs can’t tell us when something is wrong, it often goes unnoticed. KCS can lead to serious eye damage and even vision loss if left untreated.

The Animal Hospital of Dauphin County is currently enrolling dogs in a clinical study to evaluate a new medication designed to help manage the signs of KCS. As part of the screening process, eligible dogs can receive a complimentary eye test to check for signs of this condition.

📞 If you’re concerned about your dog’s eye health, call 717-652-1270 (Option 4, Ext. 4501) to learn more about the complimentary screening.

Pets can’t tell us when something feels off.

Routine bloodwork can catch changes early, sometimes before symptoms show up and helps us build a clearer picture of your pet’s health over time.

Ask us about early disease detection bloodwork at your next visit.

Fleas and ticks become more active as temperatures rise.

Even indoor pets can be exposed through other pets, clothing, or quick outdoor trips.

The easiest way to avoid these pests is by staying consistent with prevention year round.

We've covered a lot about dental health this month! Let's recap:
Dental disease affects most pets by age three. It causes real pain and impacts the whole body. Professional cleanings under anesthesia are the gold standard. At-home care helps maintain results between cleanings. Signs of problems include bad breath, difficulty eating, and behavior changes. Senior pets benefit from dental care too.
If you haven't scheduled your pet's dental exam yet, February isn't over! And dental health matters year-round, not just in February.
Don't let another year go by with untreated dental disease. Your pet will feel better, and you'll have peace of mind.
Call to book that dental appointment: (717) 652-1270
