“Vancouver-based Filament Health, a natural psychedelic drug development company, has expanded the scope of its research.

The company was already federally licensed to work with psychoactive mushrooms, but an amendment to its Health Canada Dealer’s Licence will now allow Filament to possess, produce, research, export and import all remaining controlled natural psychedelic substances, including N,N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT) and mescaline."

“If you know anything about the history of cannabis prohibition – you know it’s riddled with racism.

From the days of Anslinger where he came up with outlandish claims about the effects of cannabis on people of color, to the days of Nixon where he militarized the police and utilized drugs as a proxy for suppressing peaceful protest.

Over time, this translated into black Americans being arrested at roughly 3.5x the rate as White Americans. The same trends persisted with people of Latin decent."

Serotonin and the ECS are tied tightly together. In fact, serotonin deficient depression can cause a host of effects on the mind and immune system by disengaging the endocannabinoid system (ECS)."

“The former owners of Oregon-based Cura Cannabis, one of the subsidiaries now owned by Massachusetts-based multistate operator Curaleaf, agreed this week to pay more than $500,000 to settle a class action lawsuit over mislabeled ma*****na v**e cartridges.

According to The Oregonian, the settlement stems from a case last year in which state regulators concluded that the Portland company had mislabeled 186,000 v**e cartridges under its Select brand as 100% ma*****na when in fact employees had cut the cannabis oil with additives."

“University of Colorado, Boulder (UCB) just introduced a new study that looks at whether or not cannabis can enhance physical performance in athletes.

According to University Professor Angela Bryan, other studies have found that there is no evidence that cannabis enhances or improves physical performance. “There is very little research on this topic, and a lot of it dates back to the ’70s, but the available data suggests that cannabis is not performance-enhancing from the perspective of speed, power or strength."

“A new published clinical study out of Israel offers scientific evidence that the therapeutic use of cannabis can be a safe and effective treatment for elderly people, and is often a factor leading to the decreased use of other drugs, including opioids.

The groundbreaking article, “Epidemiological characteristics, safety and efficacy of medical cannabis in the elderly” published on February 7, 2018 in the European Journal of Internal Medicine, is the first of its kind. The study surveyed patients above 65 years of age who received medical cannabis at Tikun Olam clinics in Israel from January 2015 to October 2017. All 2,736 patients, with a median age of 74.5 years, were prescribed one or more of Tikun Olam’s proprietary cannabis strains, each developed over a number of years to address specific symptoms. "

“German-grown medical cannabis is available for purchase and sale by local pharmacies for the first time, the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM) announced late Wednesday.

Pharmacies can use the portal by Cansativa GmbH to purchase medical ma*****na from one of three contracted cultivators, two of which are subsidiaries of Canadian producers Aurora Cannabis and Tilray, respectively, and the other being Germany-based Demecan."

“There is so much potential in cannabis. It can help to alleviate chronic pain caused by a number of health conditions. It can reduce our reliance on opioids while also lessening the side effects we experience from other medications. And it’s also effective in treating depression and anxiety and improving mental health and quality of life. I could keep going, but you get the point.

It’s this potential that should have cannabis in the limelight, but there are still places in the United States that deny any form of legal cannabis use (looking at you Idaho, Nebraska, and Kansas). As legalization sweeps across the country, it’s not only about giving people recreational and medicinal access to cannabis products, but also about giving scientists and other experts the ability to conduct the necessary (and badly needed) research on the physical and mental health benefits of the plant."
