Have you heard of Functional Medicine and why it’s important? ❔

Functional medicine is an area that is getting a lot more attention lately, but it can be a brand new concept for anyone who has pinned their hopes on conventional medicine. In functional medicine, the focus is on optimizing your body and addressing imbalances that could contribute to health problems and chronic disease. 🦠

Anything that is stopping you from being in the best possible health is identified and addressed. This includes reducing inflammation, which is at the heart of a ton of chronic diseases. If you have persistent health problems, inflammation is likely playing a role in this. 😖

If you already have health issues, a functional approach can help you understand what’s caused it and how you can minimize or overcome symptoms. 😌

This is very different from conventional medicine, which usually looks to manage symptoms after they crop up, often through medications. The root cause of the problem will rarely be addressed. 💊

If you'd rather use a natural approach to looking after your health rather than taking medications, functional medicine is definitely something you'll want to dive into. 💭

So, let's talk about why functional medicine matters so much for your wellbeing! 🗣️

Why is functional medicine important? Functional medicine focuses on whole-body wellness. When all of the systems in your body are in balance and working in harmony, you're much less likely to experience health problems. ⚖️

But exactly what counts as 'balance' is definitely not a one size fits all scenario…

Every one of us is different. We all have a unique biochemical makeup that is partly linked to genetics, environment, and lifestyle. Using your medical history and specific biochemistry gives a personalized picture of your health. Your practitioner can look at hormone health, gut health, and nutritional imbalances that are linked to symptoms, for example. Understanding what is going on in your body means you can embark on a bespoke action plan that’s individualized to you. Even if you think you're healthy, functional testing can highlight areas that can be optimized. This is because health isn't just about not having disease. It's also about thriving and encouraging strong vitality. Think of it as a way to support your body to be on top form and ward off the potential to develop health problems. ⚛️

The focus is always to improve overall health, rather than addressing symptoms in any particular area of the body. Even some chronic diseases can be reversed with this whole-body approach. 👀

What is involved in functional medicine? Functional testing is crucial for getting to the root cause of imbalances. 🧪

Blood, stool, urine, and saliva tests can give a much broader picture than a single blood test and can pick up on imbalances that wouldn't be found through blood tests alone. Together, they can provide a lot of detail about how different systems in your body are functioning and how they can be optimized. 🩸

Natural interventions are the priority, notably nutrition and lifestyle optimizations. 🥗

Nutrition is a key part of functional medicine. Food can have an incredible effect on health, especially when you're making nutritional choices that support healing and bridge your specific imbalances. But it's not only about eating healthy. It's about eating in the right way for your specific needs. The best nutrition for you depends on how your body is functioning and how this can be transformed through foods that heal and restore. 🌿

Targeted supplements are often used to promote healing, depending on the results of functional tests. Lifestyle plays a huge role too. Exercise, good sleep, and managing stress levels are just a few of the lifestyle factors that can help maintain balance and promote healing. 🧘🏻‍♀️

Environmental stressors are also taken into account. Exposure to chemicals, mold, and other toxins can affect health in a huge way and taking them out of the equation is a super important part of functional medicine. But it's often incredibly hard to pinpoint their effects through conventional testing. 😰

Through intentional nutrition and lifestyle changes, functional medicine can help you get on top of your health and feel great. Have you considered incorporating functional medicine as part of your standard care? 🌿🤍

✨Healthy Eating Habits to Kickstart the New Year✨

The holidays are the perfect time to indulge in delicious foods and treats, but they can also lead to overeating and a feeling of sluggishness. As the 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣4️⃣ new year begins, it's a great opportunity to reset and prioritize healthy eating habits. Here are some simple tips to start the new year off on the right track:

1. Focus on Whole Foods: Instead of processed and sugary foods, opt for whole foods such as fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains. These foods are packed with essential nutrients and will help fuel your body for the year ahead.🍎🍋🫐🥑🥦🥒

2. Drink Plenty of Water: Hydration is key to overall health and can also help curb cravings. Set a goal to drink at least 8-10 glasses of water per day to stay hydrated and support your body's natural detoxification processes.💧

3. Plan Your Meals: Take the time to plan your meals for the week ahead. 🗓️This can help you make healthier choices and prevent last-minute unhealthy options. Include a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy fats in your meal plans.🍽️

4. Practice Portion Control: After the holiday season, it's easy to fall into a pattern of overeating. Be mindful of portion sizes and listen to your body's hunger cues. Eating slowly and savoring each bite can help prevent overeating and promote better digestion.🤤

5. Cook at Home: Cooking meals at home gives you full control over the ingredients and cooking methods. Experiment with new healthy recipes and get creative in the kitchen. You'll be surprised at how enjoyable and satisfying healthy cooking can be.🥘

6. Limit Added Sugars: While it's tempting to continue indulging in sweet treats, cutting back on added sugars can make a significant impact on your health. Read labels and be mindful of hidden sugars in processed foods.🥞🍰🥧

7. Incorporate Mindful Eating: Take the time to sit down and savor your meals without distractions. Mindful eating can help you appreciate your food more and be more in tune with your body's hunger and fullness signals.🧘🏻‍♀️

8. Find Balance, Not Restriction: Instead of following strict diet rules, strive for a balanced approach to eating. Allow yourself to enjoy occasional treats while focusing on nourishing your body with wholesome foods.⚖️

By implementing these simple tips, you can set the foundation for a healthy and vibrant new year. Remember, it's not about perfection, but rather about making consistent, positive choices that support your overall well-being. Here's to a happy and healthy new year!💪🏼🎆🫶🏽

09/12/2023

🥛🔥 Did you know that dairy products can contribute to inflammation in our bodies? 😲 Inflammation occurs when our immune system is triggered, leading to digestive discomfort, redness, swelling, and pain. Studies have shown that dairy consumption, particularly from cow's milk, can aggravate inflammation levels in some individuals. 🐄🔍

If you've been dealing with chronic inflammation or certain inflammatory conditions such as eczema, arthritis or asthma, it might be worth exploring a dairy-free diet. 🌱 Many people find relief from their symptoms by eliminating or reducing their dairy intake. Plus, there are plenty of delicious and nutritious alternatives available - almond, soy, oat, or coconut milk! (Be mindful if you have sensitivities to gluten (oat) or soy.)🥛🌿

Remember, everyone's body is different and what works for some may not work for others. If you suspect dairy is impacting your inflammation levels, it's best to consult with a healthcare professional or nutritionist. 🩺🥦 So, go ahead and prioritize your health by being mindful of the impact dairy can have on inflammation! ⚠️🌟

Balanced Beauty, Holistic Wellness Consulting

I started this journey 8 years ago and it was a frustrating one at best. Right after the holidays and also some stressful life events, I found myself losing my hair, feeling incredibly sluggish, fluctuating weight, chronic eye dryness, skin issues, and dealing with a thyroid that was putting many of my body’s functions on the fritz. Enter Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, an autoimmune disease. The frustration of what was happening to this Type A go-getter mom was consuming my days. I decided to research how to deal with this new life-long thing that was taking up residence in my body. I discovered I could not cure it, but remission was possible. I have made many life changes, many through trial and error. Some did not work, but many have reduced my symptoms and I have reached remission. It is a forever lifestyle, often with edits to the plan, to continue to feel as best as I can. To further support my mission to remission, I went back to school to get educated in Holistic Nutrition. I then decided, with the moral support from my wonderful husband, to share my knowledge and experiences with you.

At Balanced Beauty, my goal is to work with the WHOLE you to understand what you need to bring balance to your health and your life. I offer wellness consulting that guides on how food plays into where you are and where you need to be for ultimate balance. I also offer supplements and natural remedy support options in CBD H**p Oil supplements and essential oils. Lastly, our lives are filled with toxins every day through chemicals and stress. I offer Norwex non-toxic home cleaning and personal hygiene products to remove the chemical toxin load on your body. Together, we can look at the stressors and life events that may be preventing you from achieving the life balance you dream of and create a wellness path designed for you.

Are you ready to achieve your balance?
