Some days being an adult equestrian feels impossible. Work deadlines, family obligations, and bills😅 Yet, you still find a way to swing your leg over the saddle or just spend some much needed time grooming your horse. That balance is hard, but it’s proof of your dedication to yourself and your horse.

Another year at the Horse World Expo in the books🎤 This year I presented on “Toxic Barn Culture: How to Identity and Navigate It” and it was such a privilege to speak on such a sensitive, yet important topic. What makes it all worth it is having conversations with people following these talks🧠🐴

You came to the barn for horses, not the drama🙃

This is actually a small preview of what I’ll be discussing during my seminar at the Horse World Expo on Sunday, March 8th.

If you’re attending the expo, come say hi!

You can love this job and be exhausted at the same time.
You’re supporting your riders and horses, but who is supporting you?

New to horses? This is for you🐴

The equestrian world can feel intimidating and nobody talks enough about the emotional side of it. The fear, the frustration, the moments where you wonder if you’re cut out for this.

You are! Here are 6 things to carry with you into the arena.

Which one resonated most? I’d love to know💟

Maybe you went to therapy to stop spiraling before getting on your horse.

To feel less shaky.
Less in your head.
More “mentally tough.”

And then suddenly you’re crying about something that happened 10 years ago and wondering how this has anything to do with your horse.

Here’s the part no one really says:

Sometimes it feels worse before it feels better.

Because now you’re noticing things.

The pressure.
The people-pleasing.
How much your worth is tied to how you ride.
How often you say “I’m fine” when you’re absolutely not.

And if you’re in a sport that basically hands out gold stars for pushing through everything, that awareness can feel really uncomfortable.

But uncomfortable doesn’t mean wrong.

It usually means you’ve stopped numbing and started being honest.

If therapy feels messy right now, it doesn’t mean you’re broken.

It means you’re actually doing the work.

Save this for the next time you leave a session feeling cracked open instead of “fixed.”

If you’re wondering what in the world EMDR is:

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. Don’t let the fancy name scare you! It’s a type of therapy that helps your brain “process” stressful or upsetting experiences so they don’t keep holding you back.

Especially coming off of the cold snap, it’s okay if today isn’t your best ride. You showed up for yourself and for your...

Finishing the work week with a full heart💜 Grateful for this work, for the equestrians I get to support, and for an office that smells a little like horses—odd to some, comforting to many of us🐴

A good horse person knows this without needing it explained. When a horse resists, the answer isn’t more force. It’s curiosity.
What is this response protecting? What’s being asked for here?

In times like these, when fear and uncertainty ripple through our communities, this anger is a sign that something has gone wrong. Often, it’s a sign that something matters. It shows up when safety feels threatened, when values are crossed, when something needs protecting.

This kind of anger doesn’t need to be pushed away or burned off. It asks to be acknowledged, held with care, and guided with intention. This is sacred anger: the kind that protects life, not harms it.

I’m really excited to be presenting at Horse World Expo again!

I’ll be talking about “Toxic Barn Culture: How to Identify & Navigate It.”
This is a topic I care deeply about, because so many equestrians have shared how stressful, confusing, and isolating some barn environments can be. This is also one of my favorite topics to present on as it can be quite taboo to openly discuss.

A lot of unhealthy behavior in the horse world gets brushed off as “just how barns are” or “that’s how you get tough enough.” Over time, that can seriously impact confidence, mental health, and even your relationship with horses.

In this talk, we’ll get into things like:
• What toxic barn culture actually looks like (and what isn’t okay, even if it’s common)
• Subtle red flags in trainers, peers, and barn dynamics
• How power, hierarchy, and fear show up in the horse world
• Why setting boundaries or walking away can feel so hard
• Ways to protect your mental health without giving up the sport you love

My goal is for you to leave with more clarity, language for what you’re experiencing, and reassurance that you’re not “too sensitive” or imagining things.

📍 Horse World Expo
📅 Sunday, March 8th at 11AM

If this resonates with you, or if you’ve lived it, I’d love to see you there 💜
