One of the biggest misconceptions about assistive technology? That it’s too expensive.

In reality, most workplace accommodations cost less than $500. Through the Workplace Accessibility Grant—offered in partnership with [tag]Elevate Rapid City[/tag]—businesses can receive up to $500 twice a year to offset the cost of physical or digital modifications.

That could mean:
Adding a ramp or modifying a desk
Providing ergonomic seating or adjustable workstations
Installing screen readers or captioning software

A little funding can create a lot of access. And this isn’t just about compliance—it’s about building stronger teams, boosting morale, and ensuring every employee can contribute.

Apply for the Workplace Accessibility Grant. Start making changes that matter.

Accessible Sidewalks for All!

A quick reminder: where we park, place our bins, or leave bikes/scooters can make a big difference. Blocking a sidewalk—even for “just a minute”—can create real barriers for people using mobility devices, parents with strollers, older adults, and those who are blind or have balance challenges.

A clear sidewalk isn’t just a convenience—it’s a lifeline.

- Parked in your driveway? Make sure your car isn’t blocking the path.
- Taking out the trash? Leave bins off the sidewalk.
- Using a scooter or bike? Park it thoughtfully.

If your legs work, be grateful you can walk where you need to go. But let’s remember: not everyone has that option—and one day, that someone could be you or a loved one.

Let’s stay mindful. It takes so little to help so much. Together, we can build a more inclusive and accessible community.

We had a great time representing the DAC at the Fun & Friends Disability Resource Expo! The room was packed full of great organizations, amazing families, fun activities, snuggly puppies, and even a chicken!

We loved sharing our group’s purpose and information on upcoming events! Although we are located in Harrisburg, our events are open to all in the surrounding areas. It was wonderful to meet so many area families!
