Accessible Sidewalks for All!

A quick reminder: where we park, place our bins, or leave bikes/scooters can make a big difference. Blocking a sidewalk—even for “just a minute”—can create real barriers for people using mobility devices, parents with strollers, older adults, and those who are blind or have balance challenges.

A clear sidewalk isn’t just a convenience—it’s a lifeline.

- Parked in your driveway? Make sure your car isn’t blocking the path.
- Taking out the trash? Leave bins off the sidewalk.
- Using a scooter or bike? Park it thoughtfully.

If your legs work, be grateful you can walk where you need to go. But let’s remember: not everyone has that option—and one day, that someone could be you or a loved one.

Let’s stay mindful. It takes so little to help so much. Together, we can build a more inclusive and accessible community.

We had a great time representing the DAC at the Fun & Friends Disability Resource Expo! The room was packed full of great organizations, amazing families, fun activities, snuggly puppies, and even a chicken!

We loved sharing our group’s purpose and information on upcoming events! Although we are located in Harrisburg, our events are open to all in the surrounding areas. It was wonderful to meet so many area families!

🎉Yakkity Yak Coffee Shack was a nominee for our 2024 Inclusion Advocacy Award and the WINNER of our Employment Inclusion Award!🎉

The numerous nominations highlighted Yakkity Yak as a truly inclusive workplace as it is a coffee shop run by people with intellectual & developmental differences. Yakkity Yak partners with several schools to teach students job skills to help them be successful in employment. One nomination shared that Yakkity Yak isn’t just a place of employment but an important job where life skills are being learned and practiced every day! All the nominations shared a common theme of the owner, Kathy, creating a welcoming, fun, and loving environment which goes into every cup of coffee that is served.

Congratulations on both of your award nominations and on winning the very first annual Employment Inclusion Award! Thank you for your inclusion efforts in our community!
