Running a small business in 2025 feels a bit like being in a snow globe someone won’t stop shaking. Costs are higher than they’ve ever been, tariffs are coming, product delays are real, and the uncertainty gets loud. We’re grateful for every sale, truly, but gratitude and reality can coexist. And the reality is… profitability isn’t always matching the workload.
When customers ask for more discounts or deeper deals, we hear you. We always want to offer the best “real deal” we can while still keeping our lights on. Sometimes that means selling at margins that make my stomach flip, simply because I want you to have the gifts, the darling decor, the boutique finds and the little joys you love without feeling priced out.
So we’re doing everything we can to keep up with your hearts’ desires this season. But at the end of the day, you’ve got to shop it. I encourage you to take one less thing out of the Amazon cart and choose your favorite small businesses instead if you want to see them standing strong this time next year.
Yes, we post the orders rolling in and we share our gratitude because we know we’re very blessed. But it can also be true that running a small business right now is expensive, time-consuming and more than a little worrisome.
We need a certain level of volume just to break even. And we want to keep doing the things that matter to our community… sponsoring teams, donating to school raffles, showing up for local events and giving our hardworking team members a place they love to work. All of that comes at a cost that’s a lot higher this year.
So here’s my ask: drop the small businesses you’re planning to shop from this season. I’d love to see where you’re supporting local and I’ll be making a real effort to do the same.
I challenge all of us to close out this season by choosing local. It’s good for your community, good for your neighbors and, honestly, it’s good for your holiday soul. Shop small this year and I can promise you’ll land on the tippy top of Santa’s nice list… and ours, too. 💚❤️
