Sock hops, sweet memories, and plenty of toe-tapping fun—Homeland residents took a joyful trip back in time at this year’s Fabulous ‘50s Party.

From classic tunes to themed décor, the celebration brought music, laughter, and meaningful moments to life for residents and their loved ones.

“It’s so uplifting,” shared Board of Managers member Carol McCall. “You see them singing. They know these songs. It keys in on that mental alertness.”

Events like these highlight the power of connection, memory, and joy at Homeland. Learn more about this unforgettable day: https://homelandcenter.org/at-the-hop-homeland-residents-groove-to-the-fabulous-50s/

In honor of Volunteer Month, we’re especially grateful for volunteers like Tom Barry, pictured here, and so many others who bring comfort and care to those who need it most.

Homeland Hospice’s Soup and Casserole program provides patients and their families with delicious homecooked meals to enjoy when navigating difficult times.

For Janice Zaring of Newport, the joy of preparing meals for others has filled her cup in ways she never imagined.

Homeland Center recently marked the conclusion of Passover with a meaningful mini-Seder, bringing residents and community members together in reflection and tradition.

With the participation of our chaplains, Beth El Temple’s Outreach Coordinator, our Jewish residents, and residents of many faiths, the gathering was a beautiful reminder of the importance of inclusivity, shared experiences, and honoring diverse traditions within our community.

Leading up to Easter, the fun was in full swing at Homeland at Home!

Throughout the week, our staff enjoyed a festive Easter egg hunt filled with special treats, all thanks to our “office bunny,” Sable Griffith. Her thoughtful surprise brought moments of joy, laughter, and a little friendly competition to the team.

Thank you, Sable, for going above and beyond to spread Easter cheer and brighten our days. It’s the little moments like these that make our team—and the work we do—so special.

Love, connection, and peace of mind were at the heart of this year’s Valentine’s Day luncheon a couple months ago at Homeland Center, where residents and their loved ones gathered to share a meaningful afternoon together.

“I got here, and I thought, ‘Oh, my gosh, I can breathe,’” shared Cathy Nelson, reflecting on the comfort she feels knowing her wife is cared for at Homeland.

From festive décor and favorite meals to music and shared memories, the day was a reminder of the reassurance and support Homeland provides to families every day.

On March 17, we gathered for a truly meaningful evening as we dedicated our new Founders Tribute in the Chapel Hallway — a space created to honor the women, churches and community that shaped Homeland’s beginning.

Nearly 160 years ago, 18 women from nine Harrisburg churches came together with a shared purpose: to care for those most in need. Their compassion and determination laid the foundation for what Homeland is today — a legacy of dignity, community and care that continues to guide us.
During the evening, a special litany of dedication was shared, giving thanks for the founding churches whose ministries helped bring this vision to life. As each was named, we were reminded of the enduring impact of their service — a legacy that continues to live on through the work of Homeland and our community today.

We are grateful to all who joined us to reflect, remember and celebrate this important moment in our history.

Special thanks to those who helped bring this evening to life:

Pine Street Presbyterian Church
Market Square Presbyterian Church
St. Stephen's Episcopal Cathedral
Grace United Methodist Church Hummelstown PA
Salem United Church of Christ, Harrisburg, Pa.
Zion Lutheran Church, Enola PA
Gamut Theatre Group
Historic Harrisburg Association
Gourmet Grazing

As we look ahead to Homeland’s 160th anniversary, this space will stand as a lasting tribute to the women and churches who forged the way — and a reminder of the mission we continue to carry forward every day.
