Bomi was a transformative find for me. All of my pain is gone by the end of each session. His healing intuition is so strong, it's clear it travels through his hands and his heart. His healing is physical and spiritual! I cannot underscore how special Bomi is and how lucky I feel to have found him! - Eliana L

*****
Bomi is fantastic. He's helped me relieve chronic back pain in just a few sessions. The best part of working with Bomi is that the improvements are persistent, unlike with other massage therapists. He's also loosened up my shoulders and neck, which were tight for years from sitting at a desk all day. He's truly the best. You won't find any other massage therapist like him! - Andrea A

*****
I have been a Licensed Massage Therapist for 20 years. I have performed and received many kinds of bodywork. And unfortunately, have incredibly high standards.😬

My first session with Bomi left me in complete awe. His intake is thorough, and his hands on work is exceptional.

His technique is specific and results oriented. You don’t see Bomi to zen out take a nap on the massage table-You go see Bomi to free your body of years of chronic tension. I cannot recommend him enough! - Carrie D

Massage for Sciatica: Pain Relief and Prevention

Sciatica can be excruciatingly painful. The word ‘sciatica’ is sometimes used to describe any pain in the lower back, but the term specifically refers to pain along the sciatic nerve, the longest nerve in the body. The sciatic nerve starts from the lower back (the lumbar spine) and runs down the buttocks and the backs of the legs. Sciatica is not a disorder in itself. Sciatic pain is a symptom of a problem related to the sciatic nerve, and can be caused by a herniated disk that presses on the roots of the nerve. Injuries are a common cause for sciatic pain. Massage for sciatica can relieve the pain and prevent further discomfort.

What Causes Sciatica

Sciatic pain radiates along the length of the sciatic nerve and often affects the whole area from the buttock down to the back of the leg. Usually the legs are affected one at a time, or the pain in one remains worse than the other. The sensation can range from a sharp pain to a mild ache, but acute sciatic pain can be uncomfortable to the point of debilitating. At its worst it can be described as excruciating pain. Numbness along the length of the sciatic nerve or a tingling sensation is also common. Sitting in the same position for long periods of time can worsen sciatic pain. Some movements can make the pain worse. Mild sciatic pain can go away by itself in a few months, but sciatica can always reappear, making it an unwelcome and unexpected visitor.

The sciatic nerve is responsible for several muscles in the lower parts of the legs. The lumbar spine may press on the roots of the sciatic nerve, as in the case of a herniated disc. There are other possible causes for sciatica, such as lumbar spinal stenosis (the narrowing of parts of your spine), spondylolisthesis (a condition in which a vertebra slips over another vertebra and presses on the nerve), trauma from injury, or other problems in the bones, joints and muscles.

How Massage Can Help Sciatica

Orthopedic massage has been found helpful for relieving sciatic pain. The Touch Research Institute has researched the effects of massage therapy on pain in a series of studies. A study by Hernandez-Reif, M., Field, T., Krasnegor, J., & Theakston, H. (2001) found that lower back pain was reduced, and range of motion increased after massage therapy (International Journal of Neuroscience, 106, 131-145). In the study, massage therapy and relaxation treatments were compared for chronic lower back pain. The group that received massage therapy reported less pain, less depression and anxiety, as well as improved sleep, compared to the group that had used relaxation techniques.

Massage relieves pain, and can also stimulate circulation, release tension, and can help the body to heal itself naturally. Massage can also improve mobility. Spinal manipulations can increase movement in the lower back, and can relieve the pain caused by a compressed sciatic nerve. Stretching is another way to release the compression of the nerve roots, and massages that include assisted stretching can be highly effective in relieving sciatic pain.

My dear clients and friends, you are all in my thoughts and my heart at this difficult time. I hope that you, your family, and friends are healthy and staying positive as we all go through the COVID-19 pandemic together.

I am grateful that my family and I remain healthy here in Westchester County, New York. It’s definitely a tough time, but we are taking all necessary precautions to stay safe. For me, daily meditation and phone calls with loved ones are proving very helpful.

As you can imagine, I had to put the relaunch of my practice on hold until it is safe to practice massage again. I continue to network and search for locations here and in New York City where I can start treating clients in need of medical massage.

Even though hands-on massage is not an option now, I am available to clients new and old who are experiencing pain or discomfort. I invite you to reach out via phone, text, email, or Zoom. It won’t be the same as meeting in person, of course, but I would welcome the chance to speak and help however I can.

I am here for you, and I am grateful for the love and support I have received from so many of you. Please stay strong, stay positive, and know that this too, shall pass. I look forward to the day, hopefully soon, when we can work together.

I’ve got exciting news: This week I am expanding my practice to the Flatiron-Nomad district of Manhattan! I will be treating clients at Silverbush Physical Therapy where I will have the pleasure of working alongside Ben Silverbush, DPT. My treatment room is large and filled with natural light on the 12th floor (Suite 1206) of 928 Broadway.

Please help me spread the word among those you know in the New York City area. I will work in the city on Tuesdays to start, and I plan to add more days soon. Appointments can be scheduled online at bomimassage.com/appointments or by texting/calling (914) 207-4071.

The Flatiron-Nomad district is lively, friendly, and close to Midtown, Union Square, and Chelsea. I’ve been looking forward to working in New York City since I moved from California; I'm now ready to take on (clients in) Manhattan!

Now that summer is in full swing and so many of us are vaccinated, I am looking forward to seeing you again in person. Until then, I want to share a quick business update and ask you to help me spread the word that Bomi Massage is open for business in New York.

I relaunched my orthopedic and sports massage practice in 2020 and I am now treating clients in the Westchester County towns of Elmsford and Harrison, NY. After relocating from California in 2019 I can finally say "Yes, I am working!!". Each month I am working with more clients who trust me to support their health journey and it feels great!

As I grow my practice, I would be grateful for any referrals of potential clients you may know in New York. If you know someone who needs pain relief, wants to improve athletic performance, or just wants a "tune up" to make the most of the summer, please tell them about Bomi Massage. You can be confident that I am monitoring COVID-19 trends and I continue to take appropriate precautions to protect the health of my clients.

I am wishing you a happy and healthy summer, filled with family, friends, and activities that you love! I would love to hear from you by phone, text, or email, and appointments can be scheduled online at www.bomimassage.com.

Warm greetings to my clients and friends! You are in my thoughts as we collectively emerge from the pandemic. I am happy to say that I became fully vaccinated in early March and I hope you will soon be able to say the same. I experienced no vaccine side effects and I now have peace of mind knowing that I, my family, and my clients are safer from infection.

I continue to observe all precautions in my personal and professional lives, including masking, social distancing, hand washing, and disinfecting my treatment rooms. Each month I am treating more clients in both my Harrison and Elmsford, NY locations, and I am grateful for each referral and new client that I have the pleasure of working with.

I hope that the Spring brings you and your loved ones hope and optimism as it does for me.

Hello everyone, here's an article that I thought might interest you:

Massage Therapy for Tendonitis

Tendonitis (also called tendinitis) is the infinitesimal tearing of the tendon fascicles due to overuse of the tendon resulting in inflammation and irritation, thereby causing pain in the affected area. Tendon is a thick cord of fibrous tissue that attaches muscles to bones. Various names given to tendonitis problems are: wrist tendonitis, Achilles tendonitis, posterior tibial tendonitis, patellar (kneecap) tendonitis, rotator cuff tendonitis, tennis elbow (lateral epycondilitis), golfer's elbow, pitcher's shoulder (jumper's knee) and swimmer's shoulder.

Tendonitis could be caused by gardening, raking, carpentry, shoveling, painting, scrubbing, sports, incorrect exercising, injury, rheumatoid arthritis or diabetes, thermal injury (mountain or rock climbing), ageing, knee surgery or anatomically (realignment of the tendon by surgery). Symptoms for tendonitis are tenderness, pain, burning sensation, redness, lumpiness on tendon sheaths, adhesive capsulitis‚ or frozen shoulder, or swelling of the tendon.

Treatments for tendonitis are rest, icing, discontinuation of heavy activities and application of anti-inflammatory medicines; surgery being the last alternative. Massage therapy is also becoming extremely common as a cure for tendonitis. It can be applied by working on the injured fibers back and forth (not up and down).

Massage should not be given until 48 hours after the injury, or if the tissues are swollen or noticeably inflamed. A self massage therapy for tendonitis is friction massage therapy. It is used in injuries caused on shoulder, elbow, back of the heel or thumb-side of the wrist. In this therapy strokes (back and forth) are applied perpendicular to the injury using gentle pressures with fingers and thumb. Studies have shown that friction massage stimulates the production of collagen in damaged tendon fibers, thereby healing the injured part rapidly. Trigger points in the forearm can be massaged to reduce an injury of tendonitis on the wrist.

Another massage therapy for tendonitis is known as DTFM, or deep transverse friction massage (also known as cyriax massage). Here, the fingers are used to make short back and forth motions around the injured area but do not slide over it. This helps in restoring mobility by moving across a ligament and mobilizing it. The active release technique is a patented soft tissue management treatment in which adhesions and scarred tissues are repaired. This is done by a practitioner with specific vigorous movements by the injured to liberate the connected tissue.

Sports massage therapy is ideal for Achilles tendonitis. It helps in breaking the scarred tissue resulting in a blood flow thereby healing and aiding in stretching of calf muscles. Calf massage therapy can be used to stretch and relax the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles thereby healing the aching heel. To cure an Achilles tendonitis massage therapies such as transverse mobilization (alternate finger and thumb to apply transverse pressure), effleurage (applying pressure from the heel to the knee), stripping the Achilles tendon (applying sustained pressure), cross frictions (applying pressure in a transverse direction) and circular frictions (applying pressure in a circular direction) can be used.

Massage therapies can decrease swelling, foster blood circulation and avert the development of adhesions. It is best to choose a massage therapist who possess the qualifications or experience with curing tendonitis.
