🎓 MASH Week 2, Day 10 – Graduation Day! 🎓

This morning, our incredible MASH students arrived for one final day of learning, reflection, and celebration. Over the past two weeks, they’ve explored healthcare through shadowing experiences, tours, guest speakers, and hands-on activities — and today was the perfect capstone to an unforgettable journey!

The day began with an exciting suture lab led by Dr. Ross Halsted of NARMC Primary and Obstetrical Care. Students learned and practiced common suturing techniques under his expert guidance — thank you, Dr. Halsted, for sharing your time and skill!

Next, students received valuable insight into preparing for college, followed by a time of reflection where they shared their favorite experiences and lessons learned throughout the program.

Donna Boehm, MSN, RN and NARMC Chief Nursing Officer, wrapped up the morning with an inspiring message of encouragement from the leadership side of healthcare.

Finally, each student received a diploma and special gifts from NARMC and UAMS — along with some sweet treats provided by the NARMC Marketing Department. 🍪

It was a bittersweet moment for our Education Department. These bright young minds brought energy, curiosity, and compassion every day — and while we’re sad to see them go, we’re filled with hope knowing they represent the future of healthcare.

To the MASH Class of 2025: we are so proud of you! Thank you for letting us be part of your journey. Go out and change the world — one patient at a time. 💙

📣 NARMC MASH Program – Week 2, Day 9 Recap! 🩺🐄

Today was another incredible day of learning and discovery for our MASH students! Each student had the opportunity to shadow in three different healthcare settings, including:
🚑 EMS
🏥 ER, CCU, OB, Imaging
🐾 Harrison Animal Clinic, Boone Co. Vet Clinic
🦷 Keener Dentistry
🧬 Lab, Pharmacy, Cancer Center
💉 Wound Care, House Supervisor
👶 Pediatric Clinic
🏃 Rehab, Core Family Chiropractic
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Dr. Caton Family Medicine, Health Family Center, Cornerstone Medical Center

And to top off the day, students participated in an exciting dissection of a beef heart, generously provided by Makin’ Bacon of Yellville! 🫀 Dr. Kampfe from North Arkansas College led the group through hands-on techniques and fascinating anatomy education.

🚨 MASH Week 2, Day 8 is in the books at NARMC! 🚨

Our amazing students had another action-packed day with three more shadowing opportunities across a wide range of healthcare fields! From EMS, ER, CCU, OB, and Surgery, to Pharmacy, Imaging, Dentistry, Wound Care, Cancer Center, and even Veterinary and Primary Care Clinics — they got a real-world glimpse into what it’s like to serve in these critical roles.

The afternoon was just as exciting with a trio of hands-on experiences:
🩸 Stop the Bleed course led by Brian Unruh
❤️‍🔥 CPR Challenge — full of energy and life-saving skills
💨 A visit to our incredible Wound Care Department and Hyperbaric Chamber

Tomorrow marks the final day of shadowing, and we can’t wait to hear all the amazing stories these future healthcare heroes will share. Stay tuned — the best is yet to come! 💙

🚨 MASH Week 2, Day 7 at NARMC is in the books! 🚨

Our students had another incredible day diving deeper into the world of healthcare through shadowing experiences in three different areas! From high-energy units like the ER, Surgery, and EMS, to vital specialties like Imaging, Lab, Rehab Services, Pharmacy, OB, Wound Care, and CCU—they got an inside look at it all.

They also explored the fast-paced environment of Family Clinics, NARMC Physicians Group, Cancer Center, Harrison Animal Clinic, NARMC Women’s Health & Family Center, NARMC Primary & Obstetrical Care, NARMC House Supervisor, and even visited Keener Dentistry and Doshier Dentistry!

The day wrapped up with a hands-on airway management session led by NARMC Education Department’s own Brian Unruh — a great way to end a day full of learning and discovery.

📣 MASH Week 2, Day 6 is in the books! 💥

What a way to kick off the second week of the MASH Program at NARMC! Today, our students had the unique opportunity to shadow professionals in three different areas of the healthcare field, getting hands-on exposure to a wide variety of careers.

🎉 MASH Day 5 report. Week 1 at NARMC is a Wrap! 🎉

Our incredible MASH students have officially completed Week 1, and what a week it has been! Today was packed with hands-on learning, powerful insights, and unforgettable experiences that will carry them into their shadowing rotations next week. 👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️

🩺 The day began with Kara Snider, RN from our Trauma Department, who brought along some fun tools to teach the students about immobilization and trauma care—they had a blast practicing these life-saving skills!

📊 Then Tyler Somers, RN and Manager of Quality Services, gave an inside look into the vital role Quality Services plays in healthcare.

🫀 Beverly Sandvos, MBA from ARORA inspired the students with a heartfelt discussion on organ and tissue donation and the impact of recovery programs.

🍽️ A big thank you to our amazing Food & Nutrition Services Department for providing a delicious lunch to fuel the day!

💨 Michelle Frazier, MSEd., RRT from NWACC shared exciting career opportunities in Respiratory Therapy and wowed the students with interactive demonstrations.

🏥 The group then got a behind-the-scenes look at our facility thanks to an informative tour led by Dean Breedlove from Engineering.

👵 The day wrapped up with a Geriatric Empathy Activity, helping students better understand the daily challenges faced by older adults.

We are so proud of these students and can't wait to see what they learn next week during their clinical shadowing experiences. Week 2—here we come!

🚑 MASH Day 4 Highlights at NARMC! 🏥

Today was packed with exciting experiences and in-depth learning opportunities for our MASH students!

🔍 We kicked off the day with a tour of the Imaging Department, giving students a behind-the-scenes look at the technology and professionals that help diagnose and treat patients every day.

🚨 Next, the students learned about enhanced EMS dispatch and how quick, effective communication saves lives.

💊 Will Hawes, Director of Pharmacy, shared insights into the vital role pharmacists and related fields play in patient care and medication management.

🧡 A powerful presentation followed from Rebecca Isaac, SANE Nurse with Grandma's House, highlighting the role of SANE nurses and their compassionate work with survivors.

💪 Then it was time to explore Rehab Services, where Brittany Martin, Director of Rehab, guided the students through Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy areas — showing how therapy helps patients regain independence.

🧠 We wrapped up the day by splitting into two groups:
🔹 One toured the Surgery Department, exploring different rooms and learning about surgical procedures.
🔹 The other learned about Disaster Management and Mass Casualty Triage, preparing them for the unexpected in healthcare.

Today's meal was provided by Neighbor's Mill of Harrison and we appreciate the food donation so much.

Every session today opened eyes and inspired futures! 💙

MASH Day 3 at NARMC ✅

Today was full of hands-on learning and exciting experiences! We kicked off the day at North Arkansas College’s Simulation Lab, where students explored a variety of real-life healthcare scenarios in a controlled, high-tech environment. 🩺💻

Next, we toured the Claude Parrish Cancer Center with Jon Burnside, ARRT, Director of CPCC, who gave an insightful look into cancer care and treatment.

Students were also able to see the results of their hand swipes from yesterday’s lab activity — a powerful reminder of the importance of hand hygiene! ✋🧫

We wrapped up with an informative session on ECHO led by Shawnette Earwood, CNMT, who shared her knowledge and passion for cardiac imaging. ❤️‍🩹

🚑 Day 2 of MASH at NARMC was packed with powerful learning and unforgettable experiences! 👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️

We kicked off the day with a moving presentation, “Through the Eyes of the Patient,” giving students a deeper understanding of what patients experience in a hospital setting. We even stepped into some realistic patient scenarios to bring that perspective to life.

From there, we dove into the world of EMS and the NARMC ambulance service, learning how ground crews respond in critical moments.

Students got behind-the-scenes tours of an ambulance, the Emergency Room, Critical Care Unit (CCU), and Med Surg units, seeing the flow of care from start to finish.

During our lab tour, students explored infection control with hand swipes 🧫 and learned how the stroke telemedicine program connects patients with life-saving care at lightning speed.

The afternoon included a visit to the Air Evac base, where we got up close with a medical helicopter 🚁, and wrapped up with a tour of the OB unit to see how new lives enter the world.

A huge shoutout to Little Caesars Pizza of Harrison 🍕 for providing lunch and keeping us energized throughout the day!

📣 MASH Program Day 1 Kickoff at NARMC! 🏥💙

We’re thrilled to welcome our newest group of MASH (Medical Applications of Science for Health) students to North Arkansas Regional Medical Center! Day 1 is off to a strong start with orientation and hands-on CPR training. 👩‍⚕️🧑‍⚕️

These future healthcare professionals are already diving into life-saving skills and learning what it means to be part of a dedicated care team. Stay tuned as they explore different areas of healthcare throughout the next two weeks!
