As school comes to an end and summer begins, parents have to adjust their lives to meet the needs of their children. Here's 5 ways you can stay sane while your kids get a much needed break from school.

1. PLAN MEALS! We all know kids eat pretty much all of the time especially when they are home. Planning nutritious snacks and meals at the beginning of each week helps keep you from the dinner time scramble.
2. SUMMER CAMPS! Camps are a great way to involve kids in positive activities during the summer. Think sports, art, music, nature, etc!
3. SUMMER JOBS. If you have children who are able to work, encourage them to get a part time summer job. It will teach them to have a positive work ethic and give them an opportunity to manage their own money (with your help of course).
4. FAMILY TRIPS AND OUTTINGS. Summer is the perfect time to do all of those day trips you've wanted to do but keep putting off. Go do that hike. Go visit grandparents or friends. Or just grab the bikes and ride around your neighborhood together. Time together will keep your kids entertained and provide much needed bonding time that you don't get when school is in session.
5. Last but definitely not least, TAKE CARE OF YOUR OWN MENTAL HEALTH. There's never a bad time to start going to therapy. If you've done it before and put it on the back burner, maybe now is a good time to go back. And if you haven't done it before but convinced yourself that it's unnecessary or isn't worth the money then give therapy a try. Both of those narratives are keeping you from the growth mindset that will launch you into the next phase of life.

As people become increasingly aware that mental health is something we should all be paying attention to, more and more people are seeking therapy. Another aspect of this is our relationships. Sometimes, we need someone to help us learn how to communicate, how to say what we mean, how to stop certain behaviors that are getting in the way of a meaningful connection with another person.

Many times, it is the relationships that are most important to us that seem to suffer the most. They take a back seat to the busy lives that we all have. It is only when there is a problem (and usually it's a big problem) that we feel it might be time to find some help.

As we are still early In 2022, I encourage you to consider your important relationships. What are the things you have been holding onto and not saying that need to be said? What are the feelings that seem to be standing in your way and you are not sure how to express them? It's never too early to reach out to someone for counseling. It's much easier to tackle the difficulties that result simply from two people loving each other and trying to live a life In the same space. It's much harder when one or more people in the relationship have one foot out the door already.

Maybe it's time for a relationship check up! Don't put your cherished relationship on the back burner any longer. Give me a call today to schedule a consultation!

For many, "happy new year," is just something polite that we say to each other. The end of the holiday season leaves many feeling depressed and lost. It is a time the often marks that beginning of colder weather, less sunlight to our scalps, and less contact with friends and family.

People cope in different ways. Some use blue light therapy. Some use medications during this difficult season to fight the depression. The reality is, those feelings are often with us year around and just seem to come to the surface in the winter.

One of the best ways to address unwanted feelings is to see a counselor. Through working with a licensed therapist, you can build the "muscles" and begin to grow in ways that will address the underlying emotions that result in these depressed and anxious feelings.

If you're ready to make a commitment to self-growth in 2022, a free consultation with me is just a phone call or click away.
