🎉 2026 Headbands 🎉

These little headbands may be cute… but they are packed with language opportunities! 👀✨

I love using these for:
🗣️ Early language & vocabulary – labeling, commenting, and expanding (“I see reading!” “You ride!”)
🎯 Receptive language – “Find reading,” “Point to ride,” “Touch pudding”
🧠 WH-questions – What do you see? Which one do you want? Why do you like it?
🔁 Turn-taking & pragmatics – guessing games, asking questions, waiting turns
📖 Sentence building – “I see ___,” “I like ___,” “I am ___.”

They’re perfect for:
✔️ Small groups
✔️ Push-in therapy
✔️ Whole-class engagement
✔️ Easy home carryover

Bonus: kids are instantly motivated because it feels like a game, not work 🙌 and they love wearing them 💃🏻

✨ Word Work Fun! ✨

Check out this colorful word-building challenge we worked on! 🎨✏️

We used different letters to see how many words we could create — and the kids got so excited to see their list grow longer and longer.

Hands-on, visual activities like this are such a great way to build spelling, vocabulary, and phonics skills while keeping learning engaging and FUN! 💡💬

👉 How many more words can YOU spot from the letter set?

“Speech = Reading?”

Parents are always surprised by this 👇
Language skills are the foundation for reading.

🧠 Kids need:
• Strong vocabulary
• Sound awareness (phonological awareness)
• Listening comprehension
• Narrative skills
• Memory and attention
• Clear speech sounds

💡 When we strengthen language, reading strengthens too.
I offer early literacy + speech-language services for ages 5–8!

Color sorting = language GOLD 🌈🧠

This looks like simple play… but it’s doing so much heavy lifting for development.

Using little toys + colored bowls targets:
✔️ Receptive language (“put the blue one in”)
✔️ Expressive language (“red cow,” “green dinosaur”)
✔️ Early concepts (same/different, colors, groups)
✔️ Following directions (1–2 step+)
✔️ Fine motor & visual attention
✔️ Independent play + sustained focus

✨ Easy ways to level it up:
• Model short phrases: “blue in,” “yellow cow”
• Ask WH-questions: “Where does it go?” “What color?”
• Work on sounds/words before placing the toy
• Add turn taking: “my turn / your turn”
• Use AAC or signs to label colors and request turns

🏠 Perfect for home carryover:
No fancy materials. Bowls + toys you already have = meaningful speech practice woven into play.

Simple. Intentional. Powerful. 💛

Velcro + alphabet puzzles = instant engagement upgrade 🔤✨

Adding Velcro dots to an alphabet puzzle is such a simple tweak—but it turns a basic toy into a more intentional, longer-lasting learning tool.

✨ This one small change targets:
✔️ Letter identification & matching
✔️ Fine motor strength (pulling, pushing, placing)
✔️ Visual attention & scanning
✔️ Following directions
✔️ Turn taking & waiting
✔️ Motivation + task persistence

🧲 Bonus parent win:
Because the letters stick, they’re less likely to slide, scatter, or disappear under the couch. Pieces stay where they belong, which means less frustration and easier cleanup—especially for little hands still learning organization skills.

🏠 Perfect for home carryover:
Velcro adds resistance, feedback, and structure—making it easier for kids to stay engaged and for parents to reuse the same activity over and over without lost pieces. No new toys needed, just smarter play. 💛

Simple tweak. Big payoff.

Daily emotional check-ins = huge regulation + communication wins 🌈🧠

I love using visuals like this because they give kids the words their bodies can’t always find yet. Instead of behaviors doing the talking, we’re teaching emotional language.

This Zones-style check-in supports:
✔️ Emotional awareness & labeling
✔️ Expressive language (“I feel ___”)
✔️ Receptive language (understanding emotions)
✔️ Self-regulation & coping readiness
✔️ Perspective taking (“Others feel different than me”)
✔️ Pragmatic skills (sharing feelings appropriately)

✨ Ways to use it:
• Morning or session check-in
• Before transitions or challenging tasks
• Pair with coping strategies (“What helps in the blue zone?”)
• Build sentences: “I am in the ___ zone because ___.”
• Use with AAC, sentence strips, or pointing

🏠 Great for home + school:
This works for toddlers through big kids—simple enough for little ones, powerful enough for older students who need emotional vocabulary.

When kids can name their feelings, we can actually help them. 💛 Put this in your car, in your purse/bag, on your refrigerator.. always within an arms reach. 🫶🏼

✨ Don’t sleep on shape cards! ✨

These little shape cards pack a BIG learning punch 👀🧠
Each one has Velcro dots on the back, making them perfect for receptive matching, following directions, and play-based learning. I found these on Canva for free by searching “shapes.”

💡 Easy ways to use them at home:
• Hide & Find: Hide shapes around the room and say, “Find the circle!”
• Match It: Have your child match the shape to a board, wall, folder, or another card
• Go Get It: Place a few out and ask, “Give me the triangle”
• Movement Game: “Jump to the star!” or “Run and touch the square!”
• Everyday Hunt: Look for shapes around the house (plates = circle, door = rectangle 👀)

👉 Great for working on:
✔️ Receptive language
✔️ Following directions
✔️ Visual discrimination
✔️ Early concepts (shapes, colors, attention skills)

Parents — how would your child play with these? 👇
Or tell me… which shape do they already LOVE? ⭐️⬛🔺

🎧 Can your child hear the difference? 👂✨

Auditory discrimination is a child’s ability to hear and tell the difference between sounds — like /b/ vs /p/, dog barking vs doorbell, or rain vs running water. This skill is a huge building block for:
✔️ Speech sound development
✔️ Following directions
✔️ Early reading & spelling
✔️ Understanding spoken language

👇 Try this at home!
I’m sharing a fun YouTube video with different everyday sounds. Play it for your child and see if they can:
• Guess what the sound is
• Point to a picture that matches
• Tell you if two sounds are the same or different
• Close their eyes and listen extra carefully

💡 SLP tip: If your child struggles, that’s okay! Model the answer, replay the sound, and talk about what you hear:
“Hmm… it’s loud and splashy — that sounds like water!”

💬 Comment and tell me: Which sound was the trickiest for your child to guess?

Simple game. ENDLESS ways to use it. 🎲🦖

I love activities like this because they look basic… but they can target almost ANY goal with a quick tweak.

This easy DIY board game can work on:
✔️ Turn taking & waiting
✔️ Counting, number concepts, and one-to-one correspondence
✔️ Following directions (1–2 step+)
✔️ Vocabulary & sentence expansion
✔️ Articulation (words, phrases, sentences)
✔️ Early language (“go,” “stop,” “my turn,” “more”)
✔️ Pragmatics (winning/losing, commenting, encouraging others)
✔️ Self-regulation & attention

✨ Make it goal-specific:
• Say a target word before moving
• Answer a WH-question each turn
• Describe your move in a full sentence
• Practice social scripts (“Good luck!” “Your turn!”)
• Use visuals or AAC to request turns

📚 Yes… even homework!
Use this for spelling words, sight words, reading comprehension, math facts, or story retell. Roll → answer → move. Motivation instantly goes UP.

All you need:
📝 Paper
🎲 Dice
🧸 Any small toy

Simple doesn’t mean ineffective. This is one of those “use it for everything” activities—therapy, home practice, or homework support.

📖🚜 Shared Storybook Reading, but make it INTERACTIVE! 🐄🐖

This is one of my favorite examples of how books can support language development — Around the Farm by Eric Carle with the sound buttons on the side.

When kids get to press, listen, and match, they’re not just hearing a story… they’re actively participating. And that’s where the magic happens ✨

🟢 Why the buttons matter:
• Builds auditory discrimination (listening to sounds carefully)
• Supports vocabulary & labeling (cow, pig, dog, etc.)
• Encourages cause & effect
• Increases attention and engagement
• Promotes turn-taking and joint attention

🟡 How to use it for more language:
• Pause before pressing and say, “Let’s listen…”
• Ask, “Who makes that sound?”
• Let your child find and press the matching animal
• Model simple phrases: “The cow says moo!”
• Repeat, repeat, repeat — repetition helps words stick!

📌 Parent tip: You don’t have to read every word. Follow your child’s lead, talk about the pictures, and let the buttons spark the conversation.

Interactive books = BIG language opportunities 💛
Have you used button books like this at home? 👇

As a pediatric speech therapist, I know how overwhelming it can feel when you’re not sure if your child is “on track.” Maybe you’ve noticed:

✨ Your toddler isn’t talking as much as other kids their age
✨ Your child gets frustrated when trying to express themselves
✨ They use fewer words, shorter sentences, or unclear speech
✨ Following directions feels hard
✨ Reading, spelling, or schoolwork is becoming a challenge
✨ Social skills and conversations don’t flow easily

Here’s the truth every parent needs to hear:

👉 You don’t have to wait. You don’t have to guess.
A simple evaluation can give you clarity, peace of mind, and a plan.

Early support can make a world of difference—and the earlier we identify strengths and needs, the better we can help your child succeed across home, school, and life.

If something has been tugging at your heart… trust that feeling. 💛

I’m here to answer questions, talk through concerns, and guide you every step of the way.

📩 Send me a message today to schedule an evaluation or ask anything at all.

You’re not alone—and your child is made for more. 🌈✨
