March is National Social Work Month, and today we’re celebrating the heart behind the profession.
If you ask a social worker in a senior living community what their job is, the answer is rarely simple.
One moment, they’re helping a new resident and their family navigate a big life transition. The next, they’re advocating for a resident’s needs with a healthcare team, offering guidance during a difficult diagnosis, or simply sitting with someone who needs to talk. Social work in a senior living community means walking alongside people during some of the most meaningful and sometimes challenging moments of life.
It’s about listening.
It’s about advocacy.
It’s about helping residents maintain dignity, independence, and connection.
At Sunnyside Communities, our social workers are an essential part of the care team. They help coordinate services, support emotional wellbeing, guide families through complex decisions, and ensure every resident’s voice is heard.
More than anything, they build relationships. They know our residents’ stories, celebrate their milestones, and stand beside them when they need support.
This month, we’re grateful for the compassion, patience, and dedication our social workers bring to our communities every single day. 💙
