Happy National Optimist Day. We are feeling pretty optimistic about life at Sunnyside Communities. And honestly, we have good reason.

Three communities. Full calendars. Great food. Neighbors who turn into friends. Staff who know your name and probably your coffee order. Fewer chores. More living. A lot less worrying about what is next.

We believe optimism looks like choosing a life that is easier, fuller, and more fun. If that makes us optimists, we are very comfortable with that label.

Punxsutawney Phil may have seen his shadow, but at Sunnyside Communities we say bring it on. Winters at King’s Grant, Summit Square, and Sunnyside are warmer than most, thanks to wonderful residents, caring staff, and a true sense of togetherness. Even in the coldest months, life stays full with indoor swims, shared meals, and card games with neighbors, all without ever needing to step outside.

We have seen so many posts about people feeling stuck at home because of the ice, and we truly hate to hear that. Winter weather can be stressful in all the wrong ways.

Here at Sunnyside Communities, our streets have been clear since the snow first started falling. That is thanks to an incredible team that shows up and goes above and beyond in rain, sleet, and snow.

That is the beauty of a Life Plan Community. No worrying about icy roads or cancelled plans. You just get to settle in, stay safe, and enjoy the view. ❄️

The Sunnyside corporate office held its chili cookoff today. Six colleagues fought for glory but Lisa Kanney took the title for the second year in a row.

Today, across Sunnyside, King’s Grant, and Summit Square, we honor the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr..

His reminder that love is the greatest force in the universe continues to guide how we care for one another and the communities we serve. We strive each day to live out that love through compassion, dignity, and service.

As we look back on 2025, we do so with full hearts and deep gratitude.

At Sunnyside, Summit Square, and King’s Grant, we watched neighbors become friends, ordinary days turn meaningful, and compassion show up right on time. There was laughter in hallways, comfort in familiar routines, and a deep sense of belonging that carried us through.

As we close the chapter on this year, we do so grateful for the people who make our communities what they are. Places where life is honored, stories are held, and love continues to lead the way.

It’s Christmas Eve.

“It’s the one night of the year when we all act a little nicer, we smile a little easier, we cheer a little more. For a couple of hours out of the whole year, we are the people that we always hoped we would be.”

Tonight, across Sunnyside Communities, that feeling is already here. In quiet hallways and warm living rooms. In shared meals and familiar traditions. In laughter that comes easily and kindness that feels natural.

Christmas Eve reminds us of who we are at our best. Neighbors. Friends. Caregivers. Family. It invites us to slow down, to notice one another, and to carry that gentleness a little longer than we normally do.

Extra extra read all about it. The Evergreen magazine dropped just before Christmas this year and should be landing in mailboxes as we speak.

This true labor of love is filled with stories, snapshots, and moments from all three of our communities. It is one of our favorite projects of the year and a reminder of just how much heart lives within these pages.
