Our Volunteer Reception was a powerful reminder of the heart of VMRC.
Each year, we gather to celebrate the incredible commitment of our volunteers and to honor one individual with the Claude Hess Distinguished Service Award. It is always meaningful, but this year’s evening was especially moving. With music and a powerful story of service shared by Kristin Jackson, our COO, the room was already reflecting on what it means to show up for others.
Then we had the privilege of recognizing Josh Parks (JP) as this year’s award recipient.
For nearly two decades, JP has faithfully supported our residents, giving his time across many programs and events, wherever support is needed. In all kinds of weather and at all times of day, he shows up with kindness, consistency, and genuine care. He builds meaningful relationships with residents by learning their preferences, remembering the details of their lives, and offering comfort through his presence. Nominated by nine staff, the most ever for one volunteer, he is described as steady as a rock, positive, humble, and supportive.
When JP’s name was announced, he was overcome with emotion. The room rose in a standing ovation, reflecting just how deeply his service has touched our community.
JP, your quiet, faithful service inspires us all. And to each of our volunteers, thank you for the care and compassion you bring to VMRC every day.
