Last Friday’s Voices of Peace Symposium, part of January’s Mennonite Heritage Month, was a meaningful day of learning, reflection, and connection. Five sessions explored how Mennonites have responded as peacemakers in different eras of conflict in our nation’s history.
We were grateful to have residents, staff members, community members, and students and teachers from local schools join us. The sessions were well attended, with strong participation and thoughtful engagement throughout the day.
While the majority of our residents and staff today are not part of the Mennonite tradition, the Mennonite ethos from which VMRC emerged in the mid-20th century continues to shape who we are as a community. Values of community, collaboration, stewardship, peacemaking, service, and belonging are widely embraced here and woven into daily life at VMRC.
