The Celebration of Lights is VMRC’s glittering annual fundraising event. The community is adorned with starlights made in honor or in memory of an individual of each donor’s choosing. These luminaries are displayed on Main Street in Park Gables, bringing joy and comfort to all of VMRC’s residents.

Each donation, in addition to the above, provides donors with the joy of supporting our Compassion Care Fund. This fund gives to any resident in assisted living or nursing care that has unexpectedly run out of their financial resources, granting them peace of mind.

If you are interested in donating, you can show your support today: https://form-renderer-app.donorperfect.io/give/virginia-mennonite-retirement-community/online-giving

Thank you for supporting the dignity and respect for our residents. ⭐

VMRC/JMU Intergenerational Choir led by Distinguished Professor!

This fall 30 VMRC residents have joined with 7 JMU Choral Directors for weekly choir rehearsals that culminate in a Christmas concert on Thursday, December 12th. This past week we learned that our community partner, Dr. JoAnn Van der Vat Chromy received the 2024-2025 College of Visual & Performing Arts Distinguished Teacher Award. Her charisma and positive energy has certainly made an impact on our VMRC residents over the past 10 years!

November 11 marks the anniversary of the Armistice that ended World War I in 1918. The armistice went into effect on the "eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month," which is why November 11 became known as Armistice Day. It was later expanded in the U.S. to honor all veterans and renamed Veterans Day in 1954.

Wishing all veterans and their families a peaceful and meaningful . Thank you for your strength, dedication and .

🌽🍂 Honoring Native American Heritage Month Through Food 🍂🌽

This month, our dining team will appreciate the rich food heritage of Native American cultures, beginning with the Three Sisters Bowl—a nourishing blend of corn (maize), beans and squash—three ingredients with a symbiotic agricultural relationship.

As the maize grew, the beans would climb the stalk, stabilizing it in high winds and fixing the nitrogen in the corns root nodules. The squash grew along the ground, its wide leaves keeping the soil moist and keeping weeds down.

This dish will be served through tomorrow at Seed & Harvest.

As we enjoy more dishes throughout the month, we invite everyone to join us in reflecting on the people who inhabited this land before us. VMRC sits on
the western edge of the Monocan Nation and overlaps with the
Haudenosauneega Confederacy.
