Americans check their phones an average of 344 times per day—that’s once every 4 minutes! Constantly looking down at screens can put up to 60 pounds of force on your spine, leading to pain, stiffness, and discomfort.

If you’re feeling the strain, physical therapy can help relieve pain, improve posture, and prevent long-term issues. Visit https://ow.ly/4CbC50UZsAq to request an appointment near you.

This Black History Month, we celebrate the trailblazers who shaped the field of physical therapy and paved the way for future generations.

𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐨𝐝𝐨𝐫𝐞 “𝐓𝐞𝐝” 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐭, 𝐏𝐓, 𝐌𝐏𝐓 – Olympian, veteran, and professor. Corbitt revolutionized physical therapy with his work in applied kinesiology and progressive resistance exercises.

𝐁𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐞 𝐁𝐥𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭 𝐆𝐫𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐧, 𝐏𝐓 – A wartime innovator, Griffin developed assistive devices for amputees, including a feeding tube that allowed patients to eat independently and a portable receptacle to assist with self-feeding.

𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐌𝐜𝐊𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐄𝐝𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐬, 𝐏𝐓, 𝐏𝐡𝐃, 𝐅𝐀𝐏𝐓𝐀 – A dedicated educator and mentor, Edmonds founded Cleveland State's PT program and fought for healthcare equity through research and advocacy.

Their resilience and contributions continue to inspire and shape our profession. Join us in honoring their legacy this Black History Month!

If you have sore, tight, painful muscle knots, you may benefit from dry needling. This technique promotes healing after injury, increases movement, and lessens pain. Our physical therapists will assess your neuromuscular system and use dry needling to target specific tissues causing discomfort. This treatment of active trigger points increases blood flow, relaxes muscles, and reduces tension and pain.

Contact your local clinic today to see if dry needling is the right treatment for you. https://ow.ly/YKSL50UOWiF

Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) medications, such as Ozempic and Wegovy, are gaining popularity, especially when it comes to weight and diabetes management. GLP-1s provide benefits by helping to manage one's blood sugar level and appetite, which may help to support weight loss.

While taking a GLP-1, physicians will recommend regular and progressive exercise—that's where physical therapy comes in. PT offers long-term benefits like:

• Alleviating pain
• Improving mobility and function
• Building foundational strength
• Managing weight
• Empowering you with tools for lasting lifestyle changes

We want to take a moment to celebrate an extraordinary team member, Dave Barringer, who has been with us from the very beginning. On October 2, 2002, Dave became our first ever Drayer employee, and 22 years later, he’s still with us, treating patients three days a week at 69 years old!

A few years ago, Dave had a life-changing moment when a former patient told him that his care not only relieved her physical pain, but also transformed her life. This powerful reminder of his impact is why Dave decided not to retire—he knew he still had more to give to his community.

We are incredibly grateful for Dave’s dedication and the lives he continues to touch. Thank you, Dave, for being an inspiration to us all!
