Abusive Head Trauma (Shaken Baby Syndrome) can happen in just a few seconds—but the damage can last a lifetime. Never shake a baby. If you feel overwhelmed, it’s okay to put your baby safely in a crib and step away. Asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. ❤️ Thank you to the Lincoln Co. Health Department for sharing this important information with us!

🎊 CAFCA has been selected as a Community Response Partner in Kentucky 🤗

Children and Family Counseling Associates (CAFCA) is proud to share exciting news! CAFCA, led by Susan Campbell Turner, Licensed Psychological Practitioner, was selected as one of four Kentucky partners to help launch the new Community Response program.

This honor is part of the Doris Duke Foundation’s OPT-In for Families initiative, a three-year national effort to strengthen families before crises occur. Kentucky is one of only four jurisdictions in the country selected—alongside Oregon, South Carolina, and Washington, D.C.

For our community, this means CAFCA will be providing Community Response services in Mercer, Boyle, and Garrard counties, helping families connect with the tools and support they need to reduce stress, build resilience, and thrive.

The program’s philosophy—that families do best when they are met with compassion, respect, and support tailored to their unique needs—matches perfectly with CAFCA’s mission of “meeting families where they are.”

“As we celebrate our 25th year of serving Central Kentucky, we couldn’t be more excited about this opportunity,” said Campbell Turner. “The Community Response program allows us to walk alongside families, offering hope, stability, and encouragement.”

Welcome, Quinesha Saadiq, to CAFCA's Master's level internship program! She is a graduate student in the Master of Social Work program at the University of Kentucky. She will be completing her internship at Camp Dick Robinson Elementary in Garrard County while being clinically supervised through CAFCA. She has a strong passion for supporting students social, emotional, and academic well-being, and looks forward to learning and growing alongside the school community this year. She also looks forward to supporting families and our communities through outreach and advocacy work. Outside of school, she is a proud mother to a 5-year-old son who keeps her inspired every day. She is also a certified labor and postpartum doula, which has deepened my passion for helping others feel supported and empowered through life transitions.
In her free time, she enjoys crafting, spending time outdoors, traveling, and indulging in her love for chocolate. These small joys keep her balanced and remind her of the importance of self-care. In both her professional training and personal life, she values compassion, connection, and advocacy. We are so glad to have her joining our newest group of interns!
