🌹🐎 Whether you pick your favorite Derby horse to win, place or show, here are THREE FUN FACTS about horses’ vision 🐎🌹

1. They have monocular vision that allows the left eye and the right eye to work independently and see different views. Binocular vision allows the horse to use both eyes together to see directly ahead. These different views allow horses to have a panoramic view of 350 degrees.
2. Horses have small blind spots directly in front of and behind their bodies. These blind spots are due to the location of the eyes and often explains why horses tend to spook or startle when approached from behind. A horse may also have difficulty seeing an object, such as a treat, placed directly under their nose. They must use other senses, like smell and touch, to find objects in this area.
3. A horse’s eyes are very good at detecting movement, even at far distances. However, a clear picture is only possible until about 200 feet away. Objects farther than this distance may appear blurry to horses compared to people.

Call us to schedule your child’s eye exam today! 👁️👓

Legislation lowering the driver’s license permit age to 15 in Kentucky is now in effect, so driver vision testing requirements apply to 15-year-olds. If you have a child getting ready to turn 15, make sure you tell your doctor of optometry that your child needs a driver vision testing certification form at his or her next annual exam.

Spring break is here! Don’t forget your sunglasses! 🕶️

Spring vacations usually mean the beach and fun in the sun. Don’t forget to pack the items you need to take care of your vision!

Good sunglasses are more than just a fashion accessory because overexposure to ultraviolet rays fast forwards aging of the eyes and increases the risk for serious diseases. Choose sunglasses that block 99 to 100 percent of both UV-A and UV-B radiation, screen out 75 to 90 percent of visible light, and are gray for proper color recognition.

You’ve got an eye on your bracket and both eyes glued to the TV. Don’t forget to give your eyes a break during March Madness.

The Kentucky Optometric Association advises you to give your eyes a timeout. Remember the "20-20-20 rule" to avoid digital eyestrain. Take a 20-second break to view something 20 feet away every 20 minutes.

March is Save Your Vision Month, but did you know that comprehensive eye exams also can save your life?

It is not enough to have your eyes screened by your regular doctor. Annual eye exams with a doctor of optometry can detect many kinds of diseases, including diabetes, high blood pressure, multiple sclerosis and some kinds of cancer -- before they produce symptoms.
