May is Mental Health Awareness Month—a time when we amplify conversations about emotional well-being, reduce stigma, and encourage people to seek help.

But for those of us working inside the mental health field—and in high-demand roles like healthcare, EMS, law enforcement, education, and social services—this month should also serve as a pause point.

Because the truth is:
The people doing the helping are often the ones running on empty. Read more on this topic and let us know what you think: https://www.kycounselingpartnersllc.com/blog/mental-health-awareness-month-caring-for-the-caregivers

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to remind ourselves and others that mental health matters every day.

Whether you’re managing stress, navigating anxiety, supporting a loved one, or simply trying to make it through a difficult season, you are not alone. Seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness.

This month, we encourage our community to:
• Check in with yourself and others
• Normalize conversations about mental health
• Prioritize rest, boundaries, and self-care
• Reach out for support when needed

Healing doesn’t always look linear, and progress deserves recognition in every form.

If you or someone you know is struggling, support is available. Together, we can reduce stigma and build a community rooted in compassion, understanding, and hope.

PRESS RELEASE

Eating Disorders in Our Community: Research, Voices, and Solutions
Free Public Event to Connect Research, Community Support, and Lived Experience
OWENSBORO, KY — May 12, 2026 —

Community members, healthcare professionals, families, and individuals with lived experience are invited to attend a free public event focused on increasing understanding of eating disorders and strengthening community resources in the region.

The event, “Eating Disorders in Our Community: Research, Voices, and Solutions,” will be held Tuesday, May 12, 2026, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. CST at the Logsdon Community Center.

Hosted by the University of Louisville’s Louisville Clinical and Translational Research Center in partnership with the Aubrey's Song Foundation for Eating Disorders, the event will bring together researchers, community leaders, advocates, and individuals with lived experience to explore how eating disorders impact individuals and families and how communities can respond more effectively.

The goal of the event is to bridge the gap between academic research and real-world community experience, creating a welcoming space where participants can learn from experts while also hearing directly from individuals whose lives have been affected by eating disorders.

“Community voices are essential to understanding eating disorders and improving how research and treatment respond to real needs,” organizers said. “Events like this help bring together researchers, advocates, and families so that knowledge and lived experience can inform one another.”

Featured speakers will include Cheri Levinson, Ph.D., a licensed psychologist and clinical supervisor with the Louisville Center for Eating Disorders. Dr. Levinson is also a Full Professor in the Department of Pediatrics and the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at the University of Louisville.

Additional speakers will include a Dennis H Wilson, Founder and President of the Aubrey's Song Foundation for Eating Disorders as well as Jaime Daniel, Lived Experience Survivor and Public Health Advocate, sharing personal lived experience with eating disorders, providing a perspective that highlights the importance of community-informed care.

The event will feature:

Presentations from researchers and community partners
Opportunities for audience questions and discussion
Informational tables from local organizations and community vendors

Resources related to eating disorder awareness, support, and care
While the event itself will not involve active research participation, attendees will have opportunities to learn about current and future research efforts and how community members may become involved if they choose.

Food from McAlister's Deli and beverages will be provided, and promotional materials will be available.

Organizers say the event comes at an important time as communities across Kentucky continue to face limited access to specialized eating disorder treatment and resources.

Media members are encouraged to attend. Opportunities for interviews with researchers, advocates, and event speakers will be available.

The event is free and open to the public, and individuals are encouraged to register in advance. Space is limited to the first 60 participants.
