September is Su***de Awareness Month: Together, We Can Be the Lifeline
Every September, communities across the nation pause to reflect, remember, and raise awareness for Su***de Prevention Awareness Month. This time is not just about education—it’s about compassion, connection, and letting others know that they are never truly alone.
Su***de touches so many lives. Whether you have personally struggled, lost a loved one, or walked beside someone through their darkest days, you know the ripple effect it creates. The good news is that hope and healing are possible. Sometimes, all it takes is one caring conversation, one person willing to listen, or one reminder that life is worth holding on to.

5 Steps to Help Someone in Crisis
At our Su***de Awareness event, we highlighted five practical steps anyone can take to support a friend, family member, or even a stranger who might be struggling. These steps don’t require professional training—they require heart.
1. Ask – Don’t be afraid to ask directly if someone is thinking about su***de. Asking doesn’t plant the idea—it opens the door for honesty.
2. Be There – Offer your presence, whether in person, on the phone, or through text. Simply showing up matters.
3. Keep Them Safe – If they share that they are thinking about su***de, help reduce access to lethal means and stay with them if possible.
4. Help Them Connect – Encourage them to reach out to hotlines, therapists, or support networks. Offer to sit with them while they make the call.
5. Follow Up – A check-in after the crisis shows that you truly care. A text or call the next day can make all the difference.
Each of these steps is simple, but together, they can save a life.

There will be resources, local organizations, and a space to connect with others. Most importantly, we’ll take time for a memorial—honoring the lives lost and standing in support of those still here.
