After collapsing unexpectedly while responding to a call, Bolton Fire Department firefighter Steven was brought to the Emergency Department at Saint Francis Hospital, where doctors discovered he had suffered a heart attack. Two of his arteries were found to be 80–90% blocked.

Thanks to the swift action and expert care of Joseph Paul DeSimone, MD, thoracic and cardiac surgeon, along with the dedicated cardiac surgery team and inpatient cardiac unit, Steven received the lifesaving treatment he needed.

“I’m grateful for everything they did and happy to be able to go back and thank them,” Steven shared.

At Saint Francis Hospital, our mission is rooted in a commitment to serve with compassion and excellence.

Lung cancer was once highly fatal because it was often detected in later stages. Today, advances in screening and testing allow for earlier detection—when treatment is most effective. If you have a history of smoking, talk to your provider about lung cancer screening options.

In recognition of National Cycling Month and Stroke Awareness Month, we invite you to take part in a special event designed to promote health, inclusivity, and community. This clinic and organized ride is designed to provide an opportunity to gain education on adaptive cycling equipment, let experts help you find the best fit, and trial in a flat, safe area or on a hard-packed trail—all while connecting with local community cycling resources.

The clinic is tailored for individuals with a physical disability and/or visual impairment. Whether you wish to cycle for fun or fitness, cycling is a great way to enjoy the outdoors or spend quality time with family and friends. It's a low-impact activity that offers a cardiovascular workout while also helping to improve strength, balance, and coordination.

By participating, you're also helping to raise awareness of stroke prevention and recovery, while celebrating the many benefits of cycling for all abilities. Hand cycles, recumbent cycles, power assist, and additional cycles will be available for trials.

Helmets are provided. Registration is required to trial cycling or volunteer.
