🏅 Bronze Quality Award Spotlight! Last week at CAHCF’s Quality Awards ceremony, Parkville Care Center was honored with the AHCA-NCAL Bronze Quality Award. Thank you to Matthew Barrett, Marnie Talamona (CAHCF/CCAL Board), and Dr. David Gifford (AHCA/NCAL CMO) for presenting our award. Huge congrats to Wendy Nugent, Sheniqua Jones, and Natalie Cartagena for representing our team so brilliantly!

We’re thrilled to share that last week, Chris Wright—iCare’s former CEO and now Chairman of the Board—was honored with the CAHCF Lifetime Achievement Award at the Connecticut Association of Health Care Facilities’ 96th Annual Membership Meeting held at Saybrook Point Resort on July 17, 2025.

With a long-term care career spanning nearly four decades, Chris’s impact has been nothing short of extraordinary. As owner-operator of iCare Health Network—12 skilled nursing facilities across CT, MA, and VT with 1,562 licensed beds—his commitment to quality care shines through our network’s multiple AHCA Silver and Bronze Quality Awards.

Chris has also been a tireless advocate for our industry:

● Two terms on the AHCA Board of Governors (including two as Secretary/Treasurer), now serving his second term as Vice Chair

● Three terms as CAHCF President, two as Immediate Past President, four as Vice Chairman—and continuing on the CAHCF Board of Directors

● Active participant in the AHCA Future Leaders Program and staunch supporter of the AHCA PAC—regularly lending his voice at the Connecticut State Capitol and on Capitol Hill

Spring is in the air! Last year, the Parkville rec team planted a variety of tulip bulbs outside the recreation room window. They have bloomed beautifully this spring with vibrant colors, shapes and sizes!

Celebrating National Nursing Home Week at Parkville Care Center with our Tapestry of Healthcare art project!

Residents got creative using shaving cream and food coloring to create beautiful tie-dye papers — each one representing a different department in our building. A colorful reminder that every team plays a vital role in the care we provide.

Parkville Care Center turned up the fun for National Nursing Home Week with a pizza truck serving up unlimited slices and a high-energy relay race! 🍕

Residents and staff came together for delicious food and friendly competition — celebrating teamwork, laughter, and community spirit.

🌈 Taste the Rainbow at Parkville Care Center was a feast for the senses! From fruity ice cream with colorful toppings to fresh fruit cups and a visit from the Kona Ice truck, residents and staff embraced the day in full color—literally!

Add in some bright attire, bingo fun for staff, and beautiful melted crayon art, and you’ve got a Nursing Home Week celebration bursting with creativity and joy.

Last month at Parkville Care Center, we welcomed Rita, an African dancer and educator, for a vibrant cultural experience! She shared tribal dances from across the continent—including Tanzania, Congo, Senegal, Uganda, Kenya, South Sudan, Ghana, Ethiopia, Nigeria, and her own tribe, Kiganda.

Rita brought each region to life with movement, music, and stories—some residents even joined in on the fun! You’ll spot her holding up signs to show each location as she danced. What an incredible way to connect, learn, and celebrate culture together!

OT Month Spotlight: Meet Alicia! 🌟

Alicia has been working as an Occupational Therapy Assistant for six years, bringing compassion, dedication, and lived experience to every session. After sustaining an injury while serving in the Army, she required rehabilitative services—and experienced firsthand the impact that OT, PT, and Speech Therapy can have on someone’s life.

That experience ignited a passion, leading her to earn her OTA degree from Manchester Community College in 2019. Today, she channels that passion into helping others regain strength, independence, and confidence.
