The 50 licensed medical practitioners who provide primary and preventive care at Community Health Services, Inc. (CHS) in Hartford and Windsor in late 2012 first began organizing their union. They united for a voice on the job in order to assure continuity of care for their patients, their families, and their communities — and won a historic first contract in the summer of 2014. The 26 medical and dental assistants who provide vital support services at the federally qualified health center (FQHC) that serves the Capitol region have since come together to form their union. These caregivers are seeking the same ability to address and help resolve issues that impact patient care, such as high turn-over rates.
