Marcus Garvey emphasized the importance of knowing our history, culture, and identity as a foundation for progress. As a leader of the Pan-African movement, he encouraged Black communities around the world to take pride in their roots and build collective strength for the future.

His words remind us that understanding where we come from helps shape where we’re going.

📦 A big milestone for My People!

We recently completed the move out of our administrative office, packing up years of dedication, teamwork, and behind-the-scenes work that helped us serve our community. 💙

Every box carried memories of lives touched and support provided across Connecticut. While the space has changed, our mission remains the same: showing up for our people every single day.

Here’s to the next chapter of impact!

Alicia Garza is an organizer, writer, and co-founder of the Black Lives Matter movement. What began as a call to action after the killing of Trayvon Martin grew into a global movement focused on affirming Black lives, confronting systemic racism, and demanding accountability.

Her work shows us that modern Black history is shaped by people who turn grief into purpose and organize communities for lasting change.

Black history isn’t just something we remember it’s something we’re living.

Today is a full-circle moment for us 💙

This is officially our last day at Gillett Street. What a journey it has been. This space has held vision meetings, powerful conversations, healing moments, community gatherings, and so much growth. We are incredibly grateful for every person who walked through those doors, supported the mission, and helped us build something meaningful.

Now... we're stepping into a new chapter.

Our administrative office is relocating to East Hartford as we continue expanding the work and impact of My People. We're excited for what's ahead and grateful that no matter the address, the mission stays the same: building community, empowering families, and showing up for our people.

Important: While our administrative office is relocating, our program locations in Hartford will continue operating as usual.

As the month of Ramadan begins, we extend warm wishes to all who are observing. 🌙

Ramadan is a time of reflection, prayer, generosity, and community, values we honor every day at My People Community Services. It reminds us of the power of compassion, gratitude, and showing up for one another.

May this season bring peace to your home, strength to your spirit, and connection to your community. If you’re observing, we wish you a meaningful and blessed Ramadan.

"Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble."

John Lewis dedicated his life to justice, from leading Freedom Rides and marching across the Edmund Pettus Bridge to serving in Congress. He believed that progress requires courage, disruption, and standing up for what’s right, even when it’s uncomfortable.

His legacy reminds us that meaningful change often begins with “good trouble.”

Bayard Rustin was a brilliant organizer and strategist whose impact on the Civil Rights Movement cannot be overstated, yet his name is often missing from the history we’re taught.

As the chief architect of the 1963 March on Washington, Rustin played a critical role in organizing one of the most pivotal moments in American history.

His legacy reminds us that leadership doesn’t always come with visibility. Many of the people who changed the world did so behind the scenes.

Today, we honor the organizers and strategists who made history possible.

“Nobody’s free until everybody’s free.”

Fannie Lou Hamer was a fearless civil rights leader who fought tirelessly against voter suppression and injustice. From being beaten for trying to register to vote to helping form the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party, she never stopped demanding dignity and freedom for Black communities.

Her words remind us that freedom is not individual, it is collective.

Dr. Joy DeGruy’s work reminds us that healing is a vital part of Black history.

Through her research on Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome, she helped explain how the trauma of slavery and systemic oppression continues to affect Black communities across generations.

By naming these experiences, Dr. DeGruy opened the door to deeper understanding, compassion, and intentional healing, both individually and collectively.

Honoring Black history means honoring the work of healing, too.

The True Reformers Savings Bank, founded in 1888 in Richmond, Virginia, was the first Black-owned and Black-operated bank in the United States. Our Story

My People Clinical Services (MPCS) is a mission driven, community based social service organization established in the city of Hartford, CT in 2005 to “Support, Empower, and Rebuild” the lives of individuals and families in the Greater Hartford area. As a collective group of culturally competent and diverse professionals consisting of social workers, marriage and family therapists, parent educators, therapeutic support specialists, and professional human service practitioners we aim to advocate, empower, and strengthen the lives of all families behind the mission “To enable My People to help Your People so that Our People will succeed”.

Recognizing the urgency of social and mental health needs of Hartford youth and families, our staff is recruited and trained to provide immediate therapeutic and crisis intervention support services to families. Our treatment services are non-traditional, creative and holistic which highlights several of the strengths of our staff that are dedicated to the wellness of our community. MPCS staffs are trained to advocate and empower youth and parents to overcome family disruptions, parenting deficits, negative effects of domestic violence, substance abuse recovery issues, and other barriers impacting independence, safety, and stability.
