I’m just a kid from Park Street.

A place where sirens were louder than dreams some nights… where struggle wasn’t a chapter, it was a daily reality. But it was also a place of resilience, of culture, of people who loved hard even when life was harder.

Everything I am today was shaped by those streets. The lessons, the losses, the moments that forced me to grow up faster than I should have. And even now, no matter where life takes me, I carry Park Street with me, in how I speak, how I serve, and how I love.

Education gave me opportunity, but my community gave me identity. It taught me strength, humility, and responsibility. Because making it out was never the goal… making a way for others is.

I don’t do this for recognition. I do it for the kid who’s still there, trying to figure it out. The one who needs to see that it’s possible. The one who needs someone to come back and remind them: you matter, your story matters, and your future is bigger than your circumstances.

I’m just a kid from Park Street… and I’ll never forget it.

Spring is here! It’s a great time for a fresh start, a new rhythm, and a gentle reminder that growth takes time.

Release what weighed you down and step into this season with intention. You don’t have to bloom all at once. Just begin.

Had this conversation and think it’s relevant for all of us:

Choose your hard.
Being lazy is hard.
Living with regret is hard.
Feeling stuck is hard.
Watching opportunities pass you by is hard.

But…

Being disciplined is hard.
Investing in yourself is hard.
Growing is hard.
Healing is hard.
Building the life you want is hard.

Either way, life will ask something from you.
The question isn’t “Is it hard?”
The question is, Which hard will you choose?
Choose the hard that leads to growth.
Choose the hard that builds character.
Choose the hard your future self will thank you for. 🙏🏽

Repost:
The Traumatic Stress Institute (TSI) celebrated the 25th Anniversary of Risking Connection (RC) with a finale event for our RC community. Thank you to our special guests, keynote speaker, and RC community members who made it so meaningful:

We heard from some of those present at RC’s inception: those who listened to the lived experience of consumer trauma survivors and knew that the mental health system could do better (Melodie Peet); to the matchmaker and publisher (Dr. Beth Hudnall Stamm and Esther Giller) who found the organization and team that would create RC; to the creators who ensured the curriculum centered the needs of survivors and helpers alike (Dr. Kay Saakvitne). We were also honored to have TSI co-founder Dr. Dan Abrahamson, with us.

Noel Casiano, PsyD, LMFT shared in his keynote advice for staying rooted in our connection with each other while facing the many challenges in our present and reclaiming our hope.

RC Trainers Rachel Schein, Psy.D. and Samira Vishria shared creative ways they’ve kept RC thriving at their organizations, followed by breakout sessions where attendees shared their own experiences.

Finally, RC co-author and TSI co-founder Dr. Laurie Pearlman and newer RC Trainer Jasmine Bryant, LCSW, discussed their different perspectives, from the vision of what RC could be - a guide for working with trauma survivors using an approach that was theory-based, respectful, collective, and effective - to the system change model it has developed into today.
