Beyond the Data: Celebrating Our "Charlie" with a Dose of Fun

At the Olin Center, our work in cannabinoid research is serious, rigorous, and world-class. But our team? They’re also creative, collaborative, and full of heart.

When Godfrey Pearlson “Charlie” to the team here, approached a milestone birthday, our research nursing trio (Lisa Capitani, Jodi Chapin, and Nique Pichette) hatched a plan. How do you honor a giant in psychiatric research who also has the good humor to embrace his role as the strategic mind behind a dedicated clinical team?

Answer: With a custom, AI-generated poster commemorating the *50th anniversary of Charlie’s Angels*, seamlessly integrating the cannabis science he champions. It was the perfect metaphor: visionary direction meets flawless, compassionate ex*****on.

This moment reflects our culture: profound respect for the science, and genuine camaraderie among the people who make it happen.

Happy Birthday, Dr. Pearlson. Here’s to many more years of leading the charge!

I am grateful for the opportunities that I have to work in two areas of nursing that I love: geriatric psychiatric nursing and cannabis research. They are two totally different specialties in nursing, but I have been blessed that my 30 years as a registered nurse has taught me so much more beyond the classroom and the text books.

Now that the holidays are behind us, we are dosing participants again in the cannabis lab. The volcano vaporizer is our method of dosing cannabis to participants who qualify for our study. It has been exciting to be part of this team and collecting data on “THC and Aging”.

Such a great night stepping out of my comfort zone and into the world of nursing research. It was a great evening of networking and education learning about all the studies being presented at the in-person event. I am Honored to announce that Cannabis Nurse Navigator® is now a USPTO Registered Trademark.

Developed to assist patients in overcoming barriers to prompt diagnosis and treatment, the Cannabis Nurse Navigator role focuses on education, advocacy, and coordinated care within the healthcare system.

This role—and its mission—continues through ongoing research at the Olin Neuropsychiatry Research Center, Institute of Living, Hartford HealthCare, where we’re exploring how cannabis nursing can improve patient care and provider understanding.

Findings from my pilot study, “Exploring Cannabis Patient Care: Institute of Living Staff Experience and Knowledge,” will be presented at:
