Our March 6th baby came at the absolute perfect time on February 24th!
She was measuring 8lbs 10 oz at 37 weeks. 😬 So my husband and I were doubling down on everything to kick start labor (having “relations”, pelvis movements on an exercise ball, drinking raspberry leaf tea every day, started pumping out colostrum, on the day before birth I did some lunges & squats with the exercise ball, & my husband gave me a foot massage and looked up pressure points).
Anyways, at my 38 week appt last Friday, my OB measured me at 3 cm dialated and did a membrane sweep (this was awful & I don’t even think this helped). He also highly recommended me schedule an induction at 39 weeks, which I had set for this Friday.
My body had been waking me up the last week between 3-4 AM to p*e and apparently prepare me for labor because at 3:40 in the morning of the 24th, I had a strong period cramp and went to my routine p*e break and saw blood, not a lot just a little, like the very beginning of your period. I was pretty positive this was it and then I got my first contraction, starting in my back. So I woke up hubby and we already had most everything ready to go, but not those last minute things.
Anyways, we get to the hospital and they checked me at a soft 6 cm dilated and 85% effaced (meaning my cervix was very mushy & almost disintegrating).
I got the epidural at around 7-8 cm dialation & at 6:30 AM. I got settled and they made sure the epidural meds were nice and evened out on both sides this time (my first was not so even 👎🏼). And then we started pushing out baby at 9 AM and got her out at 9:43 AM, 6 hours after contractions started! My OB caught her and after baby girl got on my chest/stomach for skin to skin, she helped deliver my placenta quickly, which was funny because my OB said he never had a mama tell him she was delivering the placenta before. 😂
Highly recommend using a mirror while pushing on an epidural to see your progress since it can be difficult to feel yourself push. I also recommend telling the nurses you’d like to push in a position that keeps gravity in mind. Although I was still on my back, my legs were in stirrups and my pelvis was angled down, even with an epidural! My nurse, Denise, was an AMAZING coach and made me feel so seen, heard, and comfortable .💕
Mia Rose was born at 8 lbs 12 oz & 20 in long. She did beautifully and we are heading home in a few hours! 💖
