We want to give a HUGE shout out and thank you to our amazing church family!! Connect Church has been so good to us in so many ways but today they brought so much food they had to deliver it in a trailer!! We are so thankful!! We prayed for months for God to guide us to a church that would love on our women the way they needed it. We prayed for a church that wouldn't judge us by our mistakes but would have standards and principles that we needed in our lives to help us grow. We prayed and visited several churches and God guided us to Connect Church and after the very first Sunday I knew we had found our church. To everyone that brought food to the church for us you not only fill a need and a tummy but you filled our hearts with the love of Jesus. Thank you all for showing our ladies that people care and support them and that they're not alone. This was about so much more than a food drive and we appreciate everything!!

Today is October 1st. Betty and I had a goal for the month of September to help 10 women, start their recovery journey at Sisters United Recovery. We are so happy to say that we EXCEEDED our goal and 14 women are now on the road to recovery. 14 Moms, wife's, daughters, sisters, granddaughter's, Aunts and friends. 14 daughters of an awesome God that is about to do something amazing in the ladies lives. Please help us be in prayer for these ladies and all of our other ladies. We are absolutely blown away by the things God is doing at SUR and we are incredibly grateful for all of you that pray for us and help us in anyway.

Also, if you have given to us in any way and would like to come do a walk through to see what exactly where you're money has been spent, please reach out to me or Betty and we would love to have you come see!

Thank you all,
Summer & Betty

In honor of we will be sharing some recovery stories so please share them so we can show others that recovery is possible.

Please meet Theresa...

My name is Theresa but you can call me Angel. I was born in Florida but raised in Cullman, Al. I have four children who I completely adore. Let me tell you my story.
What happened?
Well, I wouldn't say that I had an awful childhood... there just wasn't enough love.. Especially the kind a child needs. I can’t blame my parents though, they did the best they could. I started to get quite curious at age 13. My dad never drank but ohhhh did my momma. I spent my school years with dad and summers with mom. I can remember always seeing a beer in her hand. Or her taking a shot at her tequila setup. With the lime juice and the salt, of course. Idk how I came about beginning to drink but every time I got the chance I would take a swig. Mid day light. I would be so anxious for mom to go to bed at her usual 7pm. Then the party would begin.. All by myself. I would drink as many beers as I could handle. Some nights be so drunk I couldn't get up off the couch. I hid it well. Mom never knew. She never caught on. I took it and ran with it. By the time I was 15 I was seriously hooked. I lost my mom right after I turned 15 and things started to go downhill quick.
What was it like?
I started smoking ma*****na. Drinking anything I could get. I was getting suspended left and right for having a smart mouth. I had to have intensive therapy because I was suicidal. I got pulled over in the middle of the night without a permit or license. I attended every party. I had s*x. I got pregnant when I was 16. Straightened up for the most part until she arrived. I cannot recall much of the years between having my babies. All I know is that I was pregnant for a good 4 years straight. I was good during my pregnancies, real content and careful. After my last baby was born, it didn't take me 6 weeks and the jail visits began. It has been 6 years straight of struggling to get it together. I have been arrested at least 10 times in the last 6 years. I started dabbling in some of the harder stuff. Stuff that was much harder to leave alone. But here we are.
What is it like now? I want to say that I have finally found who I am. I am still learning every day, my dislikes and likes. I have finally reached the spot in my life where I can breath. I don't think the same. I am real slow to react. I walk different, with my chest out and chin up. I see myself in a whole new light. I have been here at my safe haven, Sisters United, for a little over 10 months now. I have been on the rehab train for 18 months. I attend meetings regularly. I get involved with the ladies here at SUR. I stay busy! I have been able to buy my own car, paid in full. I am going back to school, studying welding. And I have gotten a very well paying job. I wouldn't have been able to do any of this two years ago. I am so thankful to have had God remove the urge for me to want to escape. Now I feel my feelings, which were hard at first, but I learned how to correctly let them go. It really is a one day at a time kind of living now. One moment. One second. And if you want it, go get it. IT WORKS IF YOU WORK IT!
