At just 39 years old, Anissa McKay of Houma, Louisiana, feared she was heading down the same path as her father, who lost his leg to vein disease. What began as a sore that wouldn’t heal worsened into painful ulcers, along with bone-deep leg pain and heaviness that made even everyday life difficult. What she didn’t know was the true cause - May-Thurner Syndrome along with venous disease.

After a series of minimally invasive procedures with Dr. Pradeep Nair, interventional cardiologist and vascular specialist at Cardiovascular Institute of the South in Houma, Gray, and Zachary, Louisiana, Anissa’s ulcers finally healed and her pain disappeared, allowing her to enjoy life again.

You could have vein disease and not even know it. Visit Cardio.com to schedule your appointment today.

September is Peripheral Arterial Disease Awareness (PAD)! PAD affects more than 8 million Americans over the age of 40. Up to 40% of individuals with PAD have no symptoms. Left untreated, PAD can lead to leg ulcers, foot ulcers or limb loss.

Our wound care team and the team at Cardiovascular Institute of the South is raising awareness using one simple tool, a white sock, to symbolize those who have received an amputation due to PAD. Early detection of PAD is key to reducing the risk of a chronic wound.

For more information about reducing your risk, call CIS at (985) 876-0300. For more information about wound treatment at Terrebonne General Health System Wound & Hyperbaric Clinic, call 985.873.4176 today!
